Artisan Cellars event. Bodegas Cota 45 range of single vineyard Palomino was probably the most interesting wines of the session. Highest abv of the 4 at 13%, which still isn’t high compared to fortified sherry. This range of unfortified palomino could actually be a nice alternative to those who don’t like the high alcohol in sherry, but greatly enjoy the oxidative character and all the yumminess aging under flor brings to a wine. Bone dry and full of character, but lower fruit concentration.

Miraflores San Rafael 85/100 Very good It's always something special. This Cru is more elegant with lighter nose, but still very complex array of aromas. Acidity is quite high, so the wine is perceived pretty fresh despite the warm climate.

Flint reduction on the nose reveals some butterscotch with time. High acid lemon, Granny Smith apple, mountain spring water minerals with a touch of vanilla palate. Classy texture too. Similar to introductory cuvées but with greater complexity and need to unwind (and greater potential to do so). Put burgundy on the bottle and it costs at least twice as much for a similar profile.
