Maybe because it was the only Sauternes in the tasting, but I liked it much more than I did 2 years ago in NYC. I even tasted it from both 375 and 750ml bottles, just to be sure! 🤣 Light honey gold. Aromas and flavors of honeysuckle, honeydew melon, peach confit, candied pineapple. M+ bodied, lusciously sweet, fresh bright acidity, 14% alcohol.

Impressive converntration, apparently the 2016 vintage in Sauternes wasn’t particularly strong, and Yquem yields were much higher than usual. And yet, this is a superb wine! The color is still light but and the nose is classic with notes of caramel, marmalade, mango, pineapple.. the body feels super precise with good acidity and a very very long finish. (Poured from a 750ml bottle and tasted in 2026)

Deep golden brilliant colour. So many super ripe yellow fruits on the nose. Peach, apricot, yellow apple, honey melon, honeysuckle, and jasmine blossom. So much fruit, complexity, dimension, yet super round and fantastic acidity on the palate. Super long finish. Outstanding dessert wine. I choose to pair this one with Foie Gras or cheese.

I don’t come across a Yquem often, and I love it every time. We drank this one following the Suduiraut. I was curious as to how it would compare, being 1 year younger. It certainly showed more freshness and acid lift. Lighter on the palate. More ethereal. Leaning more towards the apricot and citrus, less ginger and honey. It really feels like it could age forever. It’s so delicious in its youth that I don’t know how anyone can hold them for any length of time!

Château d’Yquem 2016 — An extraordinarily complex and refined nose, with layers of tea — chamomile and roasted hojicha — interwoven with apple jam and a rich, almost camellia like floral note. The palate has the unmistakable stature of a great Yquem: exquisitely elegant sweetness, with apricot, ripe peach, and luscious melon. Gentle acidity provides balance and poise. Regal, graceful, and beautifully composed.

Château d’Yquem visit, July 2026: A monumental sweet wine with greatness in every drop and nuance. It is a blend of 75% Sémillon and 25% Sauvignon Blanc. A fresh 2016 style: it has a refined nose of citrus, peach, honey and white flowers. The palate is pure and lifted, with crystalline fruit, great tension and elegance. Compared to the 2010, it feels more precise and airy, with slightly less opulence but superb balance.

Wine that transcends its category of a dessert wine and enters something entirely unique. Bright and fresh on the first approach with complexity of honey suckle, tulips, apricots & apple skins. Diving into it, honey, maple syrup, caramel/toffee, tropical fruits of mango and blood orange. Long finish of dried and salty nuts. Really a wine that you can pair with a whatever you want. 4.7+ now 4.9-5.0 aged
