Der Weinberg

Die alten Reben befinden sich in Taganana, nur wenige Meter vom Atlantischen Ozean entfernt. Sie wachsen auf vulkanischen Böden in einer Höhe von 75 bis 300 Metern. Der Jahrgang 2024 war von einem warmen und trockenen Klima geprägt, was eine präzise Arbeit im Weinberg erforderte.

Um die Frische der Frucht zu bewahren, wurde eine kurze Mazeration durchgeführt. Anschließend reifte der Wein neun Monate lang auf der Feinhefe in 228-Liter-Fässern aus französischer Eiche.

My first encounter with arguably the best winery in the Canary Islands - Envínate (translates as “wine yourself”). It is a project founded by 4 friends, who studied enology at university and, after graduating in 2005, formed winemaking consultancy, which evolved into Envínate. Taganan is a mostly Listán Negro based blend with small amounts of Mulata, Listan Gacho & Malvasia Rodado. 2022 vintage. ⤵️

Listan Negro driven autochtonous blend from one of the most exciting producers in Tenerife. Smoke, hematogen, red currant, basalt, barberry, goji, rooibos tea, new leather, white pepper. Red berry, sage and volcanic aroma concoction. Elegant, precise and vertical, while aromas are laser-focused and highly concentrated. Striking acidity. Dusty, powdery, tiny tannin. Would gladly repeat this one.

Marketed simply as Listán Negro, it is actually a traditional field blend from numerous tiny, ancient parcels around the village of Taganana on Tenerife's rugged northeast coast. Own rooted old vines. Fermented in concrete tanks & small open vessels. Aged ~8 mo in neutral FRo barrels. Ruby transparent, muted abv.12% Med.intense, developing N: blood & rust wavering to sour red fruit, chimichuri, whiffs of white pepper & black pepper, peony petal. Ancient field-blended Listán Negro, Listán Gacho, and Tintilla grown on volcanic soils on the northeast coast of Tenerife, Canary Islands. Low intervention artisan and traditional winemaking. Spontaneously fermented. Aged in different sized (225-500L) used French oak and concrete. Red berries, fresh herbs, tomatoes and olive. Underwood and forest fruits. Light to medium body with silky tannins. Elegant, fresh and energetic. Long mineral-driven finish.

Envinate masterclass at Le Pont Milsons Point, limited TN. Interesting contrast vs Benje Tinto. More dsvory, more stony minerality, bright cherry abd raspberry fruit, herbaceous edge and driving finish of wonderful length. Distinct savory note closing.
