2004 blanco gran Reserva. Wonderfully idiosyncratic. Amber in color, almost but not quite oxidative in character. Orchard fruit, dried apricot, sandalwood and white tea revealed themselves in layers across several hours. Intellectual wine without sacrificing pleasure. 95 pts.

Blind tasted it: faint aromas, couldn’t get them but did smell as an old wine yet fresh. Very smooth in the palate, you feel its weight and wonder if it’s a Pinot or same very fine Beaujolais… but its acidity is typical of whites rather than reds. It’s weight and roundness speaks of a red, its acidity and freshness (22 years later!!!), speaks of a white. Had a similar experience back in 2012 - I guessed it right - white, Viña Tondonia, at least 20 yrs old, from around the 2000s 💪 This is an amazing wine

Virura and Marvasia Decanted. On the nose, white flowers and chamomile appear with an elegant profile. On the palate, lemon, quince, a touch of petroleum, beeswax and almond come forward before the wine deepens. After an hour, nutmeg and spice cupboard notes emerge, still with tropical fruit. Two hours in, it becomes more savoury, with doughy, nutty, salty and slightly lactic notes.

Light gold. 21y4m. Shin’s btl. Drank over 2h. Intense grilled pineapple, exotic spices, tropical, salt, white flowers, coconut, orange zest, smoke & cedar oak. Spicy, juicy & sour. V wonderful. V high conc, high length & acid, full body. Slightly oily texture. Paints a dynamite for some reason. The fruit notes come w/ a smokiness as if from bbq. Its quite explosive & dashing. V early window if not still a bit young. Now to 2045. 95p+

Citrus peel, confit lemon, quince, cheesecake base, blanched almonds, manchego rind. Bright as a spotlight. Triple encore finish. Simultaneously savoury, sweet + fresh. Masterful shit from Maria. Re how it compares to Reserva - its another level of pristine. Finer, more vibrant + focused. Less funky. More world-beating.

One of the best bottles I’ve had of Tondonia Blanco. This is the GR from a top (2004) vintage. Benefited from opening, chilling and then serving at just the perfect temperature after the reds and before the cheese. As ever, so much complexity and no shortage of descriptors (citrus peel, cheese rind, marshmallow, hazelnut, almond, umami etc). There’s nothing quite like it. Incredible length. This will age for many more years. One of my shares at Brigs Xmas 2025 edition.

Wine #7 on Amigos blancos This wine is indeed absurdly young, yet it holds incredible promise for future development. I'm fortunate to have another bottle to revisit in the coming years. The nose is enchanting, with distinctive aromas of hop cones, lime, yellow apple skin, mushrooms, pollen, beeswax, juniper, white pepper, grilled asparagus, and a hint of white flowers. I think I like this wine more with each bottle. Lots of depth. Nutty, orange honey and some spice - seemingly oxidized, but it’s not! It’s a wine for food, accompanied this time by a large, fresh Mahi Mahi caught by @[1|32409998|Amy Massey]! I suspect this continues to age gracefully.
