What a beautiful blend. In the past I have struggled to understand and appreciate such blends, but this one leaves me in no doubt. Light beeswax aromas. Juicy, almost tropical fruit (restrained and balanced) flavours. A touch of honey. Perhaps citrus zest (halfway between bitter lemon and lime) Lovely texture with a lees / tannin kinda tongue rub.

Blend of Arinto, Trincadeira, Rabo de Ovelha, Alicante Branco and Roupeiro. Certified organic farming, limited intervention winemaking. Granite, 35yo vines. Spontaneous fermentation mostly in steel (10% in barriques), 6m aging on lees. Pale yellow, clean, med- viscous Fresh, yeasty, citrusy and faint aromatic nose. Mouth brings also predominantly citruses yet with nice twist of apple, mineral notes, ripe yellow fruits. Quite elegant and long. TCA free cork ;) Dry, med+ acidity, abv 12.5

Bracingly saline - followed up by sour fruit, crushed gravel on the nose. So struck by that huge, mouthwatering salinity. Have picked up honey on previous vintages, less so this time. Most Maçanita wines are such winners and great value. This one is a “revival of the traditional formula of Alentejo whites”. Field blend of 6 grapes from 50+ year old vines. (Add Alicante Branco and Arinto to the four listed by Vivino - Antao Vaz, Tamarez, Rabo de Ovelha and Roupeiro)
