Volnay on steroids. An exciting Mencia, way better (and of course way more expensive) than the entry-level Petalos of the winery. The nose is quite floral (maybe it’s the Mencia, maybe the 10% white varieties in the blend) with blackberry, raspberry, cherry notes. The palate is bold and vibrant as a Mencia should be, but also refined and elegant with a bit too much oak.

Very aromatic, fruity (cherry,raspberries) with oak tones, yet not shallow and simple. Very well structured and balanced. Firm but not disturbing tanins, live and pleasant acidity, long aftertaste. In some aspects chianti-like but denser.

3.75 When you try a big wine, you could say there are two outcomes: you say this is really fantastic and deserves all the hype or this is overpriced. Sadly, this was the latter. Good nose, delicate and expressive with great red fruit and oak. In the mouth it's consistent but lacks weight, elegance and that wow factor. Round tannins and good acidity in a balanced wine, but it doesn't stand out. Pretty bad QPR, hence my rating.

Deep purple - no sign of age. Alcohol, toffee, stewed plums on the nose. Super model legs. Sweet red fruits on the mouth. Wide mouthfeel. Smooth. Long. Brooding. Well made. All balanced. Nice. Just a bit of a blockbuster - missing a little complexity.
