Der Weinberg

Die Trauben stammen aus einer Einzellage von knapp 1,5 Hektar, die 1973 in San Vicente de la Sonsierra gepflanzt wurde. Der kalkhaltige Tonboden mit Kieselsteinen sorgt für eine hervorragende Entwässerung und verleiht dem Wein eine feine mineralische Note.

Last Tuesday of the month, so it’s Rhône versus Rioja. But last Tuesday of the year, so it’s the tournament of Champion ™️ The loser, it is fresher, although from an older vintage. But I missed the complexity of the C-R. A nice brilliant ruby colour. A nose of cherry, strawberry, red currant, blueberry, leather, licorice and oak. M tannins and acidity, long finish. Tempranillo at its best. Deep ruby color and very clear. This is like a schoolbook of complexity. From last year it has developed in elegance. Still the cherries, minerals, liquorice, perfect met by sweetness. Top one that will live for another decade at least

NOT like any Rioja I've had so far! Upon opening a rather strange match- struck smell persisted made me doubt the bottle. However this is what it meant to be - after 3 hours the nose subsided a bit with same noticeable smell but more oak and ripe fruits. The palate however has beautifully developed into layers of fruit, spice, violet yet still earthy. Enjoyable. Glad we had one of the only 4000 bottles from this vintage.

Clear, deep purple color. Solid nose of tobacco, cedar, smoke, ripe blackberries, black cherries, earth. Dry, medium bodied, medium plus acidity and tannins, high alcohol but worked well. Age seemed to lessen the spice kick but keep the flavor. Same flavors on the palate as the nose with additional flavors of spice, minerals, wet forest floor and leather. Long, delicious finish completes this well balanced and complex wine. Superb, we'll done and highly recommended
