Roagna Derthona Montemarzino 2022

Roagna Derthona Montemarzino 2022 es un refinado vino blanco seco elaborado a partir de uvas Timorasso procedentes de la prestigiosa región de Piemonte, Italia. Creado por la reconocida bodega Roagna, famosa por su fidelidad a las prácticas vitivinícolas tradicionales y su búsqueda constante de la auténtica expresión del terroir, este vino representa la perfecta unión entre historia y modernidad.

Se trata de la incorporación más reciente a la colección de la bodega, concebida con la misión de rescatar un vino blanco autóctono de gran potencial de guarda. Las uvas Timorasso, una variedad histórica del Colli Tortonese, provienen de viñedos con una edad media de 35 años y se transportan cuidadosamente en pequeñas cajas para preservar su frescura.

La elaboración comienza con una breve maceración de las uvas enteras en prensa. Tras el prensado, el mosto se deja oxidar de forma natural, sin añadir sulfitos. La fermentación se realiza en cubas de madera con un pied de cuve elaborado a partir de levaduras autóctonas, y posteriormente el vino reposa durante dos años sobre sus lías, en el fondo de las cubas, ganando complejidad y textura.

Fascinating to try Luca’s latest Timorasso (the 23, still not labelled and released) against his oldest. The fruit (a real thrust of pear, or “sunshine in a glass” per @[1|6249174|Alastair]) was nowhere near as reductive as feared. High acidity. Most interesting was the discussion with Luca how this may age. Come back in 2040 and we may get petrol-like notes akin to Riesling. Sounds exciting. Worth being patient.

Wine that transcends appellation limits, breaks through ceilings, and redefines what’s possible in both quality and expression. A wonderful wine from a top producer (who specializes in reds), a Piedmontese variety and a lot of tradition. It has wax and honey, a unique minerality and a bit of confusing saltiness, but the saltiness of kings - that of “Fleur de Sel” It has citrus fruit extraction and perfect complexity, it has a delicate bitterness and a finish that doesn’t leave the mouth. I dream about it at night♥️

Love this! Straw yellow with aroma of yellow apples, lemon and some notes of toast. Full-bodied with nice fruit. Fresh acidity, and a great long minerality in the finish. Like Rogna 👍🏻

Now We Are Talking… I tried the 2021 earlier this week and was a little disappointed. What a difference a couple of years make. Slightly more depth to the appearance too. More intensity, especially on the palate. Dry, medium body, high acidity. Alcohol seems a tad higher than 13.5% stated on label, but no drama. Certainly elegant. Saline core. Crushed gravel. Wax. Ripe lime. Almond. Long tail with salt rock minerality.

Massive step up from the 2016 I tried a few days ago. Not sure if it’s vintage, age, or attention, but it seems to be coming together much better than the last bottle. Nose of crushed rock and herbs. Palate has lovely tension and freshness. Long finish that build complexity. I didn’t think too much of it before, but this is beautiful.

Pours straw yellow with minerality, straw, petrol and faint citrus on the nose. On the tongue it is straw and lemon with floral notes. Medium-bodied, dry and hint of bitter acidity on the finish. Wonderful wine!

Super interesting take on Timorasso from the great Roagna 👏 from vines planted at 450m asl, east-facing. 3133btl. Gunpowder, with resinous and nutty notes, herbal, sap and lemon. Special. Light but intense, with a bracing, high acidity supporting citrus and resinous, pine needle notes to a mineral, metallic finish. Light and very taut but not shy, super interesting style. Will get more depth and harmony with age. 3.9+ 12% abv.

Intensely flinty and minerally, burnt match, burnt rubber, a bit of oak, with almost no fruit on nose. This is especially true when the wine is chilled. It is only on the palate you can feel the fruit, green fruit mostly, with some stone fruit. After 3-4 days, the wine become much more expressive with tangerine and honey. Suggest to serve this at room temperature if need to finish in a night. Thick texture suggesting lees contact. First time trying a Timorasso, unique experience, will explore more on this variety.
