A Godello from Ribera del Duero, which is perhaps a bit warmer than drier than its usual climate Med gold, nose of lemons grapefruit saline, honey, smoke and fish wort. Palate of lemon, green apple, peach. High acid, med+ body. Not very fizzy, but no oak Compared to Albariño, I find Godello to be slightly riper and fuller bodied, but with the same fizz, high crescendo acid, and distinctively Spanish character. This is less typical, and someone called it a Chablis. Quality is nonetheless extremely good

Opened this Mauro Godello 2014 fully expecting something like vinegar, especially after the cork disintegrated in my hands, and so I only wanted it for the mussels. Instead, the wine jumped out of the bottle like “surprise!” with ripe apple, lemon and salty mineral notes that taste way more alive than any 2014 Godello has the right to be. Or ever did. Easily 4.5 points and officially the best Mauro Godello to date. And proof that sometimes the bottles you nearly give up on turn out the best.

Brought back from Spain. Probably one of the best Godello's have tried. Clean and crisp but with sufficient butter to make it interesting. A really solid wine.
