Comando G Villanueva 2024

Garnacha
D.O. / Регион: D.O.P. Cebreros
Винодельня: Comando G

Good but not great. The nose has cranberry and hints of raspberry. The palate even after 2man hour in the decanter lacks the richness on the middle palate i was looking for. Cleansing acidity and minerality on the finish.

A fragrant Spanish garnacha. The earthiness worked well with the tsutake mushrooms. [@Txispa]

Made from 60 year old Garnacha tinta vines planted in granitic soil, usual low intervention vinification, native yeast, whole bunch fermentation, aged for 10 months in foudres and demijohns. Medium ruby colour. Medium+ intensity aroma of strawberries, undergrowth, cherries, smoky roses, spices. Medium+ body, juicy, lively and pleasantly astringent, fresh red fruit flavours spiced and floral notes, vibrant medium+ acidity, medium tannins, saline finish. 91

High altitude Spanish Garnacha head-2-head. From plots c.1000m asl in the Gredos mountains. Gentle maceration to avoid over-extraction and emphasise the fruit and terroir. 10 months in old 20hl oak. Beautifully intense and complex. Red cherry, wild strawberry, raspberry, red licorice, dried thyme, rosemary, granite, smoke. H acidity, M tannins, L finish. Served lightly chilled to accompany barbecue, this was gorgeous and beat the competition with its concentration and complexity and merited the extra £30 price tag

Although it is called a Natural, there was no Brat, and the palate of violet, stone fruit, saltiness, herbs, and especially hops was impressive.

Hazy pale ruby … beautiful nose… floral, violet, orange peel, tannins are silky. Complex yet elegant with raspberry, strawberry and mineral on a lengthy lingering finish.

Blew my mind. Terroir wine, yet so classical. Checks all the boxes in terms of immediate pleasure. Pretty ruby. Intense, penetrating nose of roses, strawberry, sour cherry and subtle oriental spices: nutmeg, cinnamon, Aleppo pepper. Leather. Medium-bodied, subtle tannin. Good acid, a feast of red and blue fruit in waves and bursts. Super classy throughout. Long. I am speechless.

✨ Ethereal Garnacha balancing 2022 heat with crystalline precision. A hauntingly floral, "Pinot-esque" wine showing the elite potential of high-altitude granite. Needs a LOT of air time 94 pts [Hold] 🍷2022: North-facing paraje at 1,050m on granitic sand; whole-cluster ferment and aged 12m in neutral foudre and clay 👅 Vibrant and incredible purity of red fruit. High toned wild strawberry, cranberry, white blossoms and chopped herbs. The mouthfeel is silky, defined by soft acidity and plush finely grained tannin

95-96+/100. Another day, another Comando G. Usually 10,000 bottles of this village Villanueva, but due to severe frost and grape loss they could only make ~1,290 bottles in '24. I've struggled in the past to understand Villanueva, but this vintage I totally get it! Super herbal with piparra and caper notes I find usually in the Iruelas, while also showing the red fruit and crushed rock minerals from Tumba. Real zingy palate with bright acidity and imperceptible tannins. The finish is moreish and long. Ethereal.

Finally trying my first Villanueva. 96 Parker rating for this superb Garnacha. 3.972 bottles made. Nose of fragrant elegant ethereal floral cherry & blueberry, ethereal minerals, macerated rosemary & grey minerals. Mid(+) body feel, fresh balanced smooth mineral acidity, mature smooth bold tannins. Palate as above again with added smooth anise, the superb silky mineral & floral blueberry emphasis & rock & chalk dust on the finish. 4,2⭐️++ Classy!

W4U Tasting: Red Spain Trends 76/100 Accepted The worst value for money ever. It's a very light-bodied and not somewhat deliberately faulty wine. Nothing interesting, just disappointment

2025-06-11 The bottle felt a bit off. Murky, with the usual fruit veering into Nordic territory - think lingonberry over cherry/strawberry - wrapped in a dense layer of bitter herbs. Not flawed exactly, but certainly different from previous bottles and noticeably less exciting. It had more in common with young Matassa or a moody Poulsard than what I remembered.

Comando G dinner at Le Foote, limited TN. Ok,very pretty but for me there was a very distracting array of white wine notes on the palate and perfume too. Red fruit, but also aoricot/stone fruit, white florals, minerality. Very elegant and compelling but too confusing to score higher imo. Preferred La Bruja in this bracket.

Comando G Villanueva 2023 stands out for its fruity character and elegance. Notes of cherries, and raspberries, very enjoyable aromas. It feels light and fluid, with a fineness that extends on the palate.

Spanish style lamb chops for dinner with olives and red pepper, and thought a Gredos Garnacha would be a good match. What a wine this is! All mineral with a slight funk Violet and lavender on the nose Macerated strawberry, dried raspberries Graphite galore Rosemary from the bbq, thyme, oregano Touch of orange peel, salty black liquorice, black olives Very fine tannins, and so fresh Exceptionally long saline finish Thankfully I bought 3 bottles!
