Very pure, very fruity, very balanced with raspberry, blueberry, red currant, pepper and spice notes, a vibrant, yet smooth and rounded palate backed by a mineral undertone. A really original and exciting wine from the Comando G-Uvas Felices co-production.

Confident beauty, almost moody, shows both an immensely seductive very lustful side with bright, juicy cherry and raspberry fruit, and also an emphatically noble side with dark and fresh tones of wild sage, mild tobacco ginger bread spices and roasted walnuts. In the mouth initially warm and lustful , almost fiery. With air it becomes increasingly noble with masses of rd plum and pomegranate tones followed by a whiff of sun dried tomatoes. Always self confident and resolute, finishing fresh, gripping and tart!

Comando G bought the abandoned La Reina vineyard in 2008 and revitalised it, producing their first vintage in 2011. Gentle extraction, 100% whole bunch, aged in neutral oak, all familiar to those following new wave Garnacha. The southeast aspect suffers in warm vintages like 2017 and this is paler, sterner, more tannic and evolved. It is also less fruity with a funky nose, cured meat, spice and herbs. Stoney palate, a bitter green note through the finish. Still decent, but I prefer it in cooler years.

Uvas Felices and its incredibly charming winemaker, Ramon, is an offshoot from the rapidly growing Comando G empire so expect the same kind of light extraction, bright acidity, volcanic minerality style garnacha. Expect fantastic quality too! This has metallic blue tinges and is rich and complex (but not heavily extracted), savoury and herbal (but don’t forget the wild strawbs).

Reina de los Deseos (Queen of Desires) TN 2 of 4 - First stop of #BoT24 was an on-site tasting with Ramon at Uvas Felicias, part of the Comando G stable. 2017 was a warmer vintage and as a result, this wine looks older than it tastes. Both I and other members of our group found the fruit less crisp here than other Reina years. A very powerful wine, further along in its journey. Red cherry fruit presence combined with rocks, licorice, leather and sweet spice.

2024 Judgment of Wimbledon Qualifying Round. Now entering my personal Top 3. I thought these were all a step up from the rest in what was a very tight middle grouping. Once again the Vivino avg is way off base here. Clearly don’t appreciate this style. Really edgy, but in a very refined way. My score moved from 93 to 96 as it opened up. Also some garrigue, but subtle and additative. Earth. Cool mint. Smoky fireplace embers. Light but very intense. 1,897 bottles Riaan: 3/12 (96pt) Group: 4/12 (95pt) My WOTN 🥉
