Greetings from Tokyo. Japan trip wine #6 was a Chianti Classico. Had BTG at a 40th floor hotel bar. Mostly Sangiovese with 4% Merlot. Notes of cherry, saddle leather, cigar and menthol. Medium bodied with chewy tannins and a svelte finish. From young vines and 13.5% alcohol. Ready to drink at a young age. Again no Japanese wines in the joint so I went with a good CC that I sipped while viewing the amazing Tokyo skyline from 40 stories high.

Full-body but lacks of both depth and finesse. Moreover, without vibrant acidity, some fruit-forward sweetness is quickly followed by overwhelming salinity.

Honestly a fantastic Chianti Classico that impressed me with the rustic and aged texture. Very complex nose with red & dark fruits, dried Italian herbs, and plenty of earthiness & oak. On the palate getting rustic red cherry and raspberry, with floral notes and some thyme. Finish is pretty leathery with some sandalwood, vanilla, blackberry, balsamic, and potting soil. Long deep finish with medium plus tannins and medium plus acidity. Really great for the price.
