Predicador Blanco is a white wine from Bodega Contador (Benjamín Romeo), one of Rioja’s top modern estates. 61% Viura, 21% Malvasía Riojana, 18% Garnacha Blanca. 9 months in barrels (30% new oak). Limited to 9000 bottles. Full-bodied and polished, with ripe pear, peach, apricot and white flowers over lemon peel, fennel and spice. The oak is integral rather than loud, bringing toast, cedar and a creamy edge without obscuring the fruit. The palate is broad, precise and persistent, with a long, dry finish.

Reading my notes on a previous vintage, its like I am drinking a totally different wine! Lemon coloured, dry with a medium+ body, nice acidty. Nose leads with touches of kerosene citrus honey peach oak , notes of minerals citrus pear stone. A big brute of a white wine, definitely not a quaffer, would have been better with food! Recommended to try at least a few times 🤣

Blend of the varieties of Malvasia Blanca, Viura and Garnacha Blanca. On the alluring nose it has notes of ripe stone fruits such as apricot, yellow plum and white peach beside undertones of fennel herb, brioche, citrus zest and floral orange blossoms. Fresh, complex and very mineral. The palate is balanced in terms of maturity, oak and acidity. This is very fresh , voluminous and elegant with a faint touch of toasted hazelnuts and shaved vanilla!

Another Spanish white wine for tonight. This one is from Rioja with 42% White Grenache, 33% Viura and 25% Malvasia grapes. Light yellow color. 8 months in oak barriques. Dry, medium acidity, medium plus body, baked apple, honey, hazelnut, vanilla. A bit buttery, nutty, toasty character. Quite high alcohol for white wine with 14% ABV.

Excellent wine, I had a great time with it. On the nose notes of fine citrus, ripe white fruit, herbal touches. Toasted and woody notes in the background. In the mouth it has a fresh entry with more toasted notes together with citrus and creamy hints.
