Este vino monovarietal es cuidadosamente elaborado por la prestigiosa bodega AALTO, cuyo proyecto, iniciado en febrero de 1999, fue fruto de la colaboración entre Mariano García, un enólogo de renombre gracias a su labor en Mauro y Vega Sicilia, y Javier Zaccagnini. La meta era crear un vino singular con una identidad marcada, altamente cualitativo, que pudiera reflejar la riqueza y diversidad de los distintos pueblos. El resultado es una cuidadosa combinación al final del proceso de crianza, logrando un equilibrio y complejidad notables.

Este excepcional vino blanco, envejecido en barricas de roble, proviene principalmente de los viñedos de uva verdejo ubicados en la parcela de Fuente de las Hontanillas, en Quintanilla de Arriba (Valladolid), a una altitud superior a los 850 metros. Aunque también se encuentran otras variedades, como godello y albilllo, estas contribuyen en menor proporción. Yesterday at opening ripe apple, melon and smooth aftertaste, creamy. Today more citric, stone m, minerals and a harshness. Should perhaps have been drunk in its entirety yesterday. I think storing it 2 years will be better. Will do so with the rest of the bottles.

Aalto Blanco is a high-altitude, oak-aged white from a calcareous parcel in Quintanilla de Arriba. The style is polished but disciplined, built on ripe fruit, careful extraction and oak élevage; a single parcel wine from the estate’s high-altitude vineyards at Fuente de las Hontanillas. Verdejo, with Godello and Albillo in smaller proportions. 10 months in 500-litre French oak barrels. Structured, dry and texture-driven, with ripe orchard fruit, citrus peel, spice and a measured, savoury oak frame.

Christmas dinner at home. Recently tasted with Tom and loved so much that opening my own bottle felt inevitable. And what a gem it is, even if it comes at a price. Initial petrol whiffs quickly give way to sweet apple pie, marzipan, green apple, lime and passion fruit. The palate is lightly oily, packed with ripe yellow orchard fruit and apple, all anchored by a firm mineral backbone. The finish is long, pure and persistent. A serious white with both richness and tension, showing impressive precision 👌

2022. 85% Verdejo/10% Godello/5% Albillo. Third vintage of that wine, still looking for its identity. Modern burgundian wine making - 5/600l barrels and slow fermentation and aging on lees. Very saline, citrus peel, mandarine, herbal, propoli and hay. Some honeysuckle and honeyed spices, pollen. Medium intensity, creamy palate balanced between sapidity and a sweeter, southern side (stone fruit, honey). Herbal/hay phenolics are slightly hedgy to my taste - but for sure a very good wine, still in its youth. 90+/100
