The vineyard

The Albariño grapes come from the Los Bancales vineyard, home to vines over 45 years old. This vineyard is characterized by limited yields that enhance the concentration and typicity of the fruit.

Following skin contact, the must ferments at a controlled temperature without undergoing malolactic fermentation to preserve its natural acidity. The wine then undergoes aging on its lees for over 30 months in stainless steel tanks.

Decanter scores 91; Caller Tracker 92; TimA & RParker 96; Penin 99; Jancis (17.5/20) has fascinating review by Tamlyn Currin over several days ending "moody, recalcitrant, capricious and utterly wonderful."

This wine spent 30 months on the lees in stainless steel tanks and was only bottled in 16’000 examples in 2023. Golden dress with minuscule bubbles, the nose is mesmerizing and brings you to the ocean with strong minerality and scents of shellfish, there is good acidity on the palate with some bruised apple and lemon but also hints of oil, stone, saline, ginger and yeast from the vinification, the finish is long. Complex and powerful aromatics at “only” 13% ABV, a wonderful match to a seafood and marinara rice!

Lovely restrained tropical fruit with creamy texture from the lees. Fruit is balanced with sea salt and savoury notes, even cloves. Fruit reaching tropical fruit levels of ripeness can be flabby and cloying but this has a citric backbone, sour edge and high acidity. Fresh, complex. Definitely a special Albariño.

Awesome wine. Did you notice the year? This winery makes Albariños to age. In 2023 this 2014 was bottled and issued. Color is turning to gold. This gives away the age. Lovely nose with freshness but also light petrol and yeastiness. The palate is elegant but also a bit creamy mouthfeel. Apple, lemon. When it is longer in the glass it tends more to white peach. Beautiful finish & acidity . Paired it with smoked eel. Later with salmon from the oven with "opperdoes" & "zeekraal". (look this up my foreign friends 😉)
