Heard a lot of hype about this wine. Not necessarily misplaced, but not worth the premium price. That said, either decanting or a few more years in the cellar may change that. There is definitely serious character here. Nosings of strawberry are there on opening, but with time they relax into more of a tart cherry and blackberry, with leather and a bit of mushroom. Dry palate, but full of mature dark fruit and firm tannins. A little chocolate at the end. Overall lighter than I expected, but delivered well.

(17/20) Bandol eat your heart out. Outstanding Mourvèdre. Juicy, crunchy, energetic. Medium+ intense aromas of rose petal, raspberry, red cherry, blackberry, black pepper, salty liquorice, cold coffee, tobacco, wet earth. Dry wine, medium+ acidity, medium+ and fine-grained tannins, full body, pronounced flavour intensity, long finish. 14% ABV - served @ Wijnbar Pinot

Second up was in this blind tasting practise round was this Monastrell from Spain. It’s noted to be in the top 1% of all wines in the world which does not surprise me. It would get my vote if I had one. It has bold aromas and flavours in a dark ruby colour with a fragrant nose and flavours of dark berries, cranberry and dark plum with hints of licorice and a light earthiness. Soft me fairly smooth on the palate. Displays a mellow oak barrel aging that gives a nice finishing touch to a very good wine experience.
