📕 Awesome ! 94% Tinto Fino; 6% Cabernet, close to 5 years of aging in oak, and 6 years in bottle. Paired with filet of beef. 👁️ Deep ruby 👃 Pronounced aromas of black plum, blackberry, leather, chocolate, cocoa, pepper. Developing. 👅 Dry, high alcohol 14.5%, high acidity, full body, high tannin, long finish.

This is from a classical vintage, but personally I prefer the cooler 2013. On the nose, it is very ripe with noticeable greenness, perhaps due to the splash of Cab in the blend. On the palate, it is clearly structured for the ages, only beginning to enter its drinking window. There is a degree of elegance despite the extreme ripeness, signalling outstanding quality. My first instinct was to guess Napa Cab, but there is a coconut milk flavour in the finish, and to me heavy American oak is very Spanish.

This was the first one, Unico 2014. Showing black cherry, blackberry, plum, leather, vanilla, oak. Excellent!

On May 9, the Primum Familiae Vini were in Montreal. We had a 6 course dinner featuring their flagship wines, all served from Magnums. The fourth course (beef with chocolate_sauce and mushroom_tart) was served not with 3, but with 4 incredible wines. This was a little too much. My second encounter with the 2014 vintage of Unico, as I said before “heady nose of black cherry, blackberry, plum, leather, tobacco, vanilla, coffee, cedar and balsamic. M+ tannins and acidity and long finish.”

Very long aging (~10 yrs). 👃🏽Delicate, with notes of cider, cigar box, bramble, orange peel, tobacco, cola, pine & dark cocoa. 👅 Ample, rich, luscious with a minty character for freshness. It has structure yet silky texture, dense & finesse. Super fine tannins. Dark chocolate midpalate. Spiced balsamic minerals tobacco 🏁. A true gem indeed💎. Powerful, yet elegant & complex. King👑. Still a bit young thou.
