Notes from a blind tasting in the club. The last flight was just called "the four greats" and we had to find out what they were. This was obvously a Barolo and a really nice one at that. Herbal, earthy rather lifted nose. On the palate it's bright, crisp, mature. Very earthy, savoury, complex, with still solud tannin grip and nice complexity. The youngest of the four, all were 2010 vintage (Bordeaux, Burgundy, Rioja, Barolo).

94-95+/100. My first try of Luca's wines. Woah. Light red roses, powerful fruit, white pepper. Fantastic palate intensity with long moreish finish. Reminds me of top top quality burgundy grand cru. Incredible. Must be something in the name 😉

This was solid. Showed much more aged than expected but then opened a capellano 2011 3 days later and it was even more «brown» and aged. So maybe Barolo gets to be brown faster than I give it credit for. This should not be aged any further.

A young but seriously impressive Barolo with the signature Roagna tension and old-school structure. Initially quite reserved, then slowly revealing tar, dried rose, red cherry and savoury herbal notes with air. The palate carried firm tannins and notable grip, but there was purity and energy beneath the structure. Less about immediate pleasure and more about potential and terroir expression. Feels like a wine still speaking in chapters rather than full sentences. One to revisit with patience over the next decade.

Notes of tar, leather, tobacco and truffle in background 👄 Well developed, structured and precise, driven by high acidity and firm yet refined tannins. Flavors of sour cherry, dried fruit, licorice, and earthy nuances lead into a long, mineraldriven and a slightly bitter finish. 🎯 90/💯 points and 4.3 ⭐️

Starting to show a lovely ruby/tawny toward the edges. Soft, earthy and complex. A delicious elegance with superb mouth feel. Remarkably approachable without food, but softened and matched beautifully with BBQ Cumberland sausages and beef!Intend to leave a glass back for day two, but will prove tricky.

Doesn't get much better! A stellar Barolo from the finest vintage of the last decade. Aromas of red cherry, pomegranate, rose petals, and dark spice lead to a vibrant palate with juicy red fruits, star anise, and hints of orange zest. Taut tannins and bright acidity frame its elegance and depth — delightful layers of complexity.
