Amazing showing. Very elegant at just 13% ABV, with beautiful freshness and a refined, savoury character. The nose is complex and expressive, with red fruit, dried flowers, herbs and earthy notes slowly unfolding in the Zalto Burgundy. Nothing feels heavy or forced. There is real depth here, but also finesse and balance. Paired surprisingly well with beef ball soup. A lovely bottle that feels both mature and full of life. 11 bottles more

A reputation this big usually sets a wine up for disappointment. Not here. Super aromatic and nicely textured, it earns every bit of its status, which is rare. After 13 years: cherry and cranberry, dried rose and damp earth for the grown-up side, juicy and round, a little spice, oak that knows its place, and tannins so ripe and integrated you wonder where they went. Frivolous and serious at the same time, and astonishingly soft. If this is not at its peak, I would like to see what peak looks like.

Pretty, smooth, clean, and fresh with balanced layers. Not quite ready though as it struggled to open up. Cranberry, cherry, prune, blackberry, vanilla, leather, balsam notes, and a little dill all integrate nicely. Very nice, but at current retail prices, I would look elsewhere. 94 points.

TWS ‘global icons’ tasting pack. Been a while since I’ve had a Tondonia and a very distinctive wine. Nose of cherry, coconut, oak, vanilla. On the palate cherry, spice, leather, hit of acidity but integrated. Iron on the finish. Tannins are easy-going and approachable.
