Aromas of red berries and soft earth are fresh but somewhat restrained, revealing a touch of reduction. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grained tannins, yet the acidity feels slightly disjointed and lacks precision. It finishes with decent length, showing herb and sous-bois nuances, but remains somewhat compact. While elegant and focused, it is currently in a closed, austere phase. Further bottle aging should allow the fruit to unfurl and integrate the structure more harmoniously.

Spectacular wine. On the nose, dark fruit (did not decant). As the wine breathed, red fruit, strawberry, minerality, tart, oak. Fizzy feeling on palate. Really enjoyed this vintage.

Translucent ruby. Bouquet of cherry compote, mushroom, leaf compost, violet, tamarind, and some umami, soy sauce notes. Just a great blend of fruit and savory. Fresh and intense on the palate, dry, burst of cola and a nice earthy, mushroom finish. Gorgeous, definitely wine of the night for my group.

🗓: 2018 🍇: Pinot Noir 👁: Deep ruby 👃: Medium+ to pronounced intensity for nose. Notes of floral, violet, cherry, cranberry, blueberry, toast, vanilla 👅: Dry, medium+ acidity, medium+ tannins, medium+ to full bodied, 13.5% abv, palate has cream notes in addition to nose, long length finish Silky and smooth. The palate is impressive. So expressive. Still very young but showing lots of promise. I think maybe in 10 years time i may give this full marks. 4.8 pts for me now.

Burgundy tasting event @ Cornerstone. One of the standout grand crus tonight. Most of the younger vintages showcased today outshone the older vintages. Though there were not many outstanding older vintages today, these young grand crus are showing a lot of promise. Already drinking well after a slow aeration over 3 days. This would be stellar in the cellar after another 3-5years.

Burgundy Charmes virtual tasting, Jasper Morris. Gérard Raphet is an under the radar producer, this is my first of their wines. It's forward for a 9 year old Grand Cru, without the stunning florals and minerality of the Chambolle Charmes next to it. It does however have a lot to like. Pale tawny. Smoky nose, cherry, raspberry, a bit of sous-bois. The palate has sweetness, roundness and tangy acidity, and a general sense of quality. Sweet spice, earth and leather. Delicious, and drinking well now, 4*+.

Fun fact, this wine has a special label "Cuvée Unique" 🤪, dedicated to North Berkeley Imports. For this regular bottle, I'd say it's burg taster's wine indeed. light and delightful, with bright red fruit scents like red cherry, red plum, strawberry, red currant, and notes of smoky, earthy, scorched wood, forest floor, white truffle, spicy. On the palate, it's more woody and serious, with flavors of animal leather, tobacco, dried dark cherry, and a touch of red flowers. Medium-bodied, medium-long finish.
