#Primum Familiae Vini walk around tasting in Montreal. Familia Torres were supposed to pour four wines (according to the booklet we were given). We were surprised to be offered this fifth wine. Another very nice wine from them, with black cherry, blackcurrant, plum, leather, cigar box, licorice and cedar. Velvety tannins and M+ acidity. Surprisingly enough, a new RS ✅ for me (Spanish CS).

Somewhat purplish in glass, esp at core. Black currant. Ripe fig. Whiff of chocolate. Very spicy finish. Velvety tannins. Quite the surprise this is 100% CS! We both hadcthis as our fav of the night. No one was more shocked than I was. 😅🍷Tried at CoOp Wines of Catalonia tasting, June 20, 2026.

Primum Familiae Vini Last wine at Familia Torres was Mas La Plana, not indicated in the booklet we got, so perhaps a bonus for certain special guests (☺️)! This is CS and is aged 18 months in French oak (85% new). The nose was showing leather, tobacco, oak, blackberry, black cherry, vanilla and pepper.

Kicking off weekend w my fave Spanish 🇪🇸 Cab, the benchmark for me. Paid $40 & my rating reflects that QPR. Don’t drink under 10 so barely met my rule here 😅 💯 CS 18m in 🇫🇷 oak Bordeaux inspired but very much its own beast. Mediterranean flair. Pauillac influence. Sexy, smooth cassis & blackberry, cedar spice, graphite, tobacco leaves 🍂, vanilla, dark chocolate 🍫 finish. Noble tannins. Years ahead but delish now. A bright ruby-coloured wine with a jammy blackcurrant and oak nose. On the palate, it is oaky and peppery, with flavours of red berries. It has a slightly bitter finish, presumably reflecting its youth. The 2016 appears more tannic than the 2017.

On the nose, beautiful scent of leather, tobacco and a bit nutty, all of it mixed with berry jam. In the mouth, notes of fig and prune with oak and vanilla. There's a beautiful undertone of pepper mixed with blackcurrant (?). Texture is oily for a nice medium long finish with rounded tannin.

Dark red ruby color. Toasty and roasted nose initially where grilled red pepper, dark chocolate and minty cassis whiffs make a case for it. Supple and intense fruit that has seen ample oak treatment, dressing the ripe, warm texture in a handsome mocha coat. Loads of chocolaty black currants are tempered by a Mediterranean herb streak, black olives and a suave, balsamic cappuccino note in the long, shifting finish. Tasted 18 January 2025 Deep dark hue of velvet ink, very long finish. Excellent fruitiness, albeit a rather young-ish Bordeaux blend. Mellow but heady nose of summer florals, I like its complicated berry fruits base. A rather excellent bottle from Torres. I’m planning to stock up more.

Very bold and powerful. Felt like the tannins might have mellowed somewhat over the years. A complex, lingering flavour monster. There are dark fruits, smoke, tobacco, earth, oak etc. Wonderful.
