Can’t go wrong with this Spanish cab- have tried many different vintages- oak vanilla blackcurrant cassis cherry - the 2012 is a bit softer, not as acidic, still full bodied but the finish is not as long… seems like a good time to drink it.

It blew my mind when I tried it. I still have one bottle of this and I will open it to revisit the feeling. I hope you know the story that this one in a blind tasting in france in 1979 won over the French wines. I only knew torres family wines as something mass oriented, but this one... This one is special. Beautiful and unforgettable cab sav that you could easily mistake with French one. Rich, fruity, full bodied, blackberries, blueberries, nice soft tannins. If you come a cross it, highly recommend!

This Mas La Plana, sometimes referred to as the black legend, is still in optima forma (100% CS, 14.5% abv). Dark ruby colour, rather thick legs. The nose offers black cherry, cassis, oak, cigar box, pencil shavings, leather, dried fruit and licorice. The palate shows more black fruit, oak, coffee, cocoa, chocolate, together with some roasted and smoky notes. Sweet spices too like vanilla, licorice and cinnamon. Still enough juicy acids and palpable tannins to age further. Full bodied. ⤵️⤵️⤵️

Serendipity! I opened this a few nights ago, apparently around the same time as @Alex GGunno also drank a MLP. The only reason I possessed this bottle in the first place was Alex nominated this in a @Blind Faith round about a year ago, and I managed to pick up a spare bottle. How things go full circle. Utterly compelling upon opening, such richness and depth. Oak, tobacco, vanilla and blackberry. Heady and delicious. A little more pedestrian on day two, but clearly a joy to drink. Great choice Alex!

Clean Deep Ruby color. Developing, pronounced aromatic intensity. Rich black fruit, ripe black plum pencil shavings in the beginning, after decanted for around 2 hours, followed by vanilla, oak, cedar, leather, licorice and spices. Dry, full bodied, high alcohol intensity, medium+ acidity with balanced, medium+ tannin. Rich flavor intensity of Black fruit, plum, oak, cedar with long finishing. Very good Spain Cab. Good to drink now, and still has potential for ageing.

A catch up from note - Blindfaith Compete. The blueberry notes with chocolate were pushing me towards Malbec but alas… Deep purple with ruby. Nose is pronounced with candy, blueberry, black cherry, jam, vanilla, some sweet red currants, dried cranberry notes. Palate is HOT HOT HOT with red and black fruit, mocha, pepper and wood. @[1|47623479|Blind Faith] compete catch-up S3W09 just enjoying these 2 picked by @[1|9845107|Alex GGunno]. Lovely Cabernet comparison. Plush and juicy black fruit driven, with some blackcurrant compote, chocolate, clove. A subtle balsamic or medicinal feel. Beautiful texture and fine velvety mouthfeel. Warming alc stands out a little but appropriate for autumn. Love MLP, tonight this feels like one of the mountain AVAs from Napa to me.

@[1|47623479|Blind Faith] Compete, Champion's Round from last season's winner @[1|9845107|Alex GGunno]. I tasted after the reveal. This was a cheeky choice, I can understand why as many called Cali as Spain here. Now deep garnet. Development on the nose, cassis, blackberry, tobacco, well integrated French oak. The palate is juicy, smooth and in a great place for drinking now IMO. Spicy with mocha, vanilla and loads of structure. Tasty! With some air and next to the Moss Wood it does have a savoury old world style.

No way would I have guessed Cabernet Sauvignon or Spain for this! My first tasting of MLP and I shall definitely be buying a bottle of this 18 months in French oak, 85% new All plush and serious, but didn’t smell of Cab. No pencil shavings or cassis Lots of liquorice Rich fruit flavours - blackberry, mulberry Vanilla Beautiful tannins that have just the perfect amount of grip Smoky and earthy Bitter dark chocolate Herbal and spicy, especially cinnamon Alcohol felt maybe a touch high Delicious wine!

Blind tasted via @[1|47623479|Blind Faith] - my guess was Argentinian Malbec. Couldn’t pick out blackcurrant or cassis typical of cab sauv. - Visually deep purple with magenta rim. - Scents of stewed fruit, plum, cinnamon, spice, mint leaf, oak and smoke. - On the palate full bodied, medium tannin, medium acidity with strong oaky plum and residual spice. A lovely wine!

I've only ever had Spanish cab sauv once before - on a lonely but surprisingly enjoyable Valentines Day in 2011. Like that day, this was superb. The strong oak influence initially led me to Rioja, but again I plumped for a younger Californian Cabernet from 2015. With air, the finish was most rewarding. Superb @[1|47623479|Blind Faith] Champions week pick from @[1|9845107|Alex GGunno] and one of my favourite wines of what's been a very strong Season 3! I'd happily drink this again.
