Chateau Montrose, 2021 Saint Estephe, Bordeaux, 2nd Growth Grand Cru, 18 mts in 60% new oak. 62 % Cabernet Sauvignon, 31 % Merlot, 6 % Cabernet Franc, 1 % Petit Verdot Oak, vanilla, caramel, tobacco, chocolate, cassis, dark cherry, strawberry, blueberry, slightly floral. 2021 was not a great Bdx vintage but shows what a top winemaker can do in tough yrs. Could use a little bit more authority & resistance, but this is a still stunning, oak driven & utmost polished, silky tannins. 93p

95 pts. Lots of orange, blackberry, mulberry, blueberry, earth and tobacco. Quite fresh and extremely elegant on the palate. Does not really have any sign of oak which actually makes it hard to mark as a Bordeaux wine. But no matter what this wine is for sure well made with some very impressive pure fruit for the bad 2021 vintage in Bordeaux. Drink now or save 5-10 years.

With Andreas Rosendal MS The 1970 Ch Montrose ranked 3/10 in the original JoP The 2016 is exceptional good vintage and it shows! 4.7*++ with more potential ahead Deep purple. Pronounced aromas, pencil lead, cedar, blueberry. Dry, M+ body, very polished tannins already, M+. M+ acid. Great balance. Blackberry, cedar and floral 68% CS, 25% M, 7% CF 18 mths in 60% NFO 13.5% (no reverse osmosis) BOOM!! Ps. I rated 2018 Ridge Monte Bello 4.6*++ 🥈 📸🏁

Offering immense density, concentration and remarkable freshness, unfolding notes of boysenberry reduction, minty cassis, graphite, violets , star anise, wilted roses warm cigar wrappers and creamy baker’s chocolate. The elegant and persistent palate is powerful, yet refined by silky, polished tannins and a seamless finale that goes on and on! A vintage that perfectly reflects the signature of its terroir !
