Tasted at Artadi in Laguardia. 2023 La Poza de Ballesteros Nose of slightly smoked oak, blackberry, black cherry, graphite, hints of leather that will reveal themselves more with age. Deep, dark fruited, mineral, a little bit lighter and less tannic than la hoya. Elegant and balanced. Hot vineyard with ripeness but good water retention allows to keep freshness. All reds are aged in used oak. Only whites are aged in new oak, then reused for reds year 2-7. Delicious acidity

The second Thursday of November means International Tempranillo Day 2025. This year, I opted for Laguardia-based Bodegas y Viñedos Artadi & the single-plot ’La Poza de Ballesteros’ (v18, 14.5% ABV, solo Tempranillo), a fabulous slow-oxed showing, immutable greatness. Dark, dense red, violet in appearance. Developed nose brimming w black & blue fruit, cedar, vanilla, balsamic herbs & barrel spice. Lean, pure m+-bodied palate, hefty concentration of fruit, toasted mouthfeel, earthy profile, v long, juicy-dry closing!

blackberry cherry violet oak pepper leather bay leaf dark chocolate menthol. Medium to full body wine. Coarse tannins with strong alcohol mouthfeel, medium+ acidity, long finish. For me, i will keep this in the cellar maybe atleast 5 years. The wine got a good firm but silky mouthfeel, really great structure and complexity. Anyway, It is a very dry and really complicated one. Decant for atleast 2 hours. A serious quality wine. Nose: 4.5 Body,taste:4.2 Fin,struct:4.7 QPR:4.1 MyPref:4.2

Medium + body with medium+ to high tannins and a medium to medium + acidity. Notes of sour black cherry, blackberry, new leather, spices and hard roasted coffee beans. Shows a great richness without being at all heavy, combined with a tight youthful tannin structure. Rather closed aroma profile, with black fruit and oaky influence coming through. Keep in the cellar for 5+ years more.
