Artadi’s top wine is impressive indeed, despite the less than brilliant vintage. Thanks to 2018 this is a “cool climate”, Burgundy-style red despite the oak and the Tempranillo. Fresh and mineral with cherry, sour cherry, blueberry, mint and eucalyptus notes. A firm and tight palate with a mineral undertone, this is a really exciting top red with enormous depth and complexity.

The expectations I had for this bottle were exceedingly high but It is a bottle of mostly hit but some miss. It opens beautifully perfumed violet, dark plum, blackberry, dusty cassis, cedar and oak with a mouthwatering acid. All these transfer well to the palate along with toast, flint minerals, and a nice balsamic to round it out. Tannins are smooth and polished. The acid seems high as it’ll burn and warm a bit. I don’t mind the burn but ALL flavors are cut short and don’t linger. The finish falls short.

TWS June24 #7/8 Another big gun here. Deep ruby. Med+ intensity, forest, vanilla, cedar, char, smoke, then blackberry, milky notes. Med+ acidity, med+ tannins, high alc., med+ body, med+ finish, nice! Felt younger than 2015! Still needs another 10 years to develop fully.

The most expensive wine from Artadi - and for me one of the best Spanish wines I know. And he really towers over everyone. With its pressure, with its majestic nature, with its extract-rich, wonderful character. It surprises primarily with the fact that - as with many grandiose wines - nothing stands out. It is balanced, fine, spicy aromas, fine, rather light texture. This isn't a barker - he doesn't need to be. He beguiles with his entire, perfect nature.
