Intense ruby in color, with a medium-intensity nose of plum and blackberry, joined by tertiary notes of burnt almond and tobacco. On the palate, it remains well balanced, still showing lively acidity despite 23 years of aging. Black fruit continues to dominate, with leather and chocolate integrating beautifully. Brilliant to try this with a good amount of age, still a good amount of tannin this will have a few years yet to develop complexity but this is showing forest floor and mushroom with a long finish.

20221128 - Gentle red fruit nose with a brief whiff of dark chocolate Light-ish mouthfeel with bracing acidity and soft tannins Most of us thought it was either an American or an Italian .. I thought it was rather like a Chianti All were surprised when unveiled .. this was probably the most willowy Alion we ever had KC's @ Lunch Session in WMK's place partly to celebrate the success of the progressive parties in the last General Election and the hopes for a better tomorrow ahead

Karen,'s TB Dark cherry, chocolate nose. Immediately thought this was the most voluptuous, dark chocolate-mocha driven wine today. Lush dark fruits, stewed prune raisin, espresso, layered tobacco-laced glycerin, and minty licorice. Amidst this forward sweetish opulent structure, there's still noticeable acidity, which made me think it's a ripe RB or warm vintage Italian Brunello. Wrong! Once unveiled, it's so evidently a robust Ribera, the Alion! 🤪100% Tempranillo! 14%alc. It's a little too robust for me.

Shame to give such a rating to a top RdD. Cork was saturated, soft and fell apart all the way. It wasn't just over the hill, it was down the hill, lost it's beauty by 70%. Decanting got rid of wet rotten mulch fumes, wine wasn't a vinegar yet, but a pleasure was gone. Still not layered in brown brick colour, but sediments were thick. N: wet, almost rotten forest floor, some barn. P: better then nose - acidity already up, but overripe fruit flavours were still felt in a distance. Guess bad storing to blame.

Continuing with that sort of wines that are passed their optimum peak but live in the plateau of top performmace trading wisdom for immediate pleasure. Aromas of ripe red forest fruits, almost in compote. Figues. Menthol. Toasted bread with chocolate. In mouth, incredibly silky. Polished. So long. Intensity then mitigated with flavoury notes that persist throghout time. Tannins are fruity. Tasty. Not leaving the evidence of a high quality wine.

Another vintage to add to my list of experiences with this excellent RDD label. 2002 seems to be past its peak, but it’s still excellent! 👃🏻 Earthy notes, like mushrooms and moist earth, followed by dark fruit, raisins and chocolate. 👅 Balanced and rounded by time, with softened tannins and still good acidity. Prunes, fine herbs, tobacco and spices in the palate. 4.5⭐️

The BE KIND RE-WINE guy

A bit more tannic than 1998. A unique scent here, like wet leather. a bit drier than 98 too. however we just managed to open this one on time. Cork was saturated. Thus, our failure to properly keep this wine may not do it true justice.
