Conca de Barberá has a moderate mediterranean climate with very warm summers up to 35C - cold winters up to 1C and average 14C degrees. The sun shines around 2500 hours and percipation around 450mm. This winery is inside a monastery linked in history to the monks of Burgundy in the 12th century. Blend of 40% Trepat, Garrut (Monastrell), Grenache, Ull de Llebre (Tempranillo) and Syrah. Tannins developing. Little thinner on the palate. Peppery. Coffee. Cigarbox. Thyme rosemary. Abv 14%

A Conca de Barberà blend of Trepat, Garrut, Garnacha & Ull de Llebre, this is an interesting wine & only my first try of a red from the DO. Med ruby. M+ aroma intensity w. cherry, black cherry, raspberry & loganberry. Slightly funky w. liquorice & peppercorn w. a touch of game meat. Developing. Dry. Rounded w. cherry, raspberry, black cherry & loganberry. Good freshness w. redcurrant, cherry, plum & slightly peppery green capsicum. M+ alc, m+ acid, m+ fine tannins & a med finish that’s a touch on the short side.

Medium ruby. Medium(-) intensity on the nose. Youthful. Red current, cranberry, sour cherry with hint of mint and white pepper. Clean red fruit on the palate. Medium(+) alcohol, acidity and tannin. Medium body and intensity. Medium(+) finish. Nice structure and balance. Somewhat one dimensional but will match with most simple meat dishes. Overall a good wine. Drink now and not suitable for ageing.

🗓: 2016 🍇: Not stated. Vivino says Garnacha, Trepat, Ull de bre 👁: Medium ruby colour 👃: Medium+ intensity for nose. Notes of cherry, cranberry, oak, leather, baking spices (which went away after a while), mushroom 👅: Dry, medium+ acidity, medium- tannins, 13% alcohol, medium bodied, palate is similar to nose, medium length finish. Enjoyed this Spanish blend with @David Thong. Very easy to drink and has a lovely bouquet for its nose. Very good balance too! 4.2 pts for me
