Eulogio Pomares Carralcoba Blanco 2023

This dry white wine from D.O. Rías Baixas is crafted by Eulogio Pomares using the Albariño grape variety. It offers a clean and expressive aromatic profile, characterized by vibrant acidity and a long, dry finish.

Key facts

  • Grape variety: Albariño
  • D.O. / Region: D.O. Rías Baixas
  • Winery: Eulogio Pomares
  • Soil / Altitude: Low-fertility soils in Castrelo
  • Ageing / Cellaring potential: 8 months in chestnut vat

The vineyard

The grapes originate from a unique plot in Castrelo, featuring low-fertility soils that promote fruit concentration. The vineyard is planted with 78-year-old ungrafted vines, which lend depth and complexity to the wine.

Ideal combination

Winemaking

Vinification and subsequent aging take place over eight months in a large 1,200-liter chestnut vat. This traditional method preserves the natural character of the vineyard and the balance of the variety.

Why buy it

If you are looking for a highly limited Galician white wine, this release of only 2,100 bottles is an excellent addition to your cellar. Its structure and freshness ensure a beautiful evolution in the bottle. You can buy Eulogio Pomares Carralcoba Blanco 2023 online directly from our shop.

The oldest Albarino that I have tasted so far. Its acidity kept it vibrant, it’s very much alive and kicking, but its character is different from the young Albarinos that we tend to drink. More tropical fruity notes, ripe apple and pear aromas, a more smooth and rounded palate than we experience when we drink the young, citrusy-saline wines. A pleasant and complex wine at this stage.

Our journey in Madrid commenced with this wine, which boasts a dark yellow hue. The aroma unfolds with a rich palette of apple, stone, quince, straw and melon. It's marked by high acidity and pronounced minerality, creating a well-balanced and intricate profile. The finish is notably long.

So bright, creamy, and balanced! Peach, yellow apple, and quince in a bright but round bouquet with hints of oolong tea. Like a soft blanket, the finish is salt and brine with a solid core of mouthwatering acidity

Fruity and aromatic. It was fermented in 1,200-liter chestnut vat, where it matured until bottling. Palate is clean with notes of white fruit and flowers, and with a dry finish.

RETRY! Supposed to be VG quality 80€+. Blind tasted #1 at cantine isola -> not your classic Albariño (“mezcal smell?” Per tomi). I passed to buy this as a glass cuz i didn’t like that “oxidized??” Scent I thought It had oxidized notes… (gone bad?) but Tomi said it’s supposed to be yeast and peaches and neutral Galician cask (not supposed to be oaky). 8 month Sur lie -> bread clear on 2 day! 13%

Barcelona Wine Week. Just brief impressions. My first time trying this Carralcoba white and I’m in love. Stunning crispiness, the acidity just melts in your mouth. Soft spices, salt and sea. When you drink it, you just look teleport to the ocean.

It's a cute balance between weird natural and extremely refreshing. Nose: m+ intensity, sunflower blossom, dried herbs, cidre, dried fish, sea coast, citrus. Palate: dry, high acidity, m + body, long aftertaste, med alcohol. Salty and mineral. Very good, drink now, not for ageing

I drank this wine a few time ago, I saved the rewiew in the personal comments, I never published it and I only discovered it now, because I drank a red from the same producer. It presents good notes of wood, fresh fruit (citrus) and minerals (stone / salt). Light, dry/medium dry, with salient acidity. The wood connects everything in a nice round set. On the non-sensory dimension, the label announces added sulphites and I praise the 12,5% ABV, for its moderation and friendly caracther. Monday, 22/8/22
