The vineyard

The grapes originate from the iconic Viña Tondonia vineyard, located on the right bank of the Ebro River. The vines, with an average age of over 60 years, grow on alluvial and limestone soils that impart a unique minerality to the wine.

Fermentation takes place in old wooden vats using indigenous yeasts. The wine then undergoes an unusually long aging process of six years in oak barrels, followed by an additional two years of refinement in the bottle before release.

Found this for $160 at a high end steakhouse. Pretty insane. Not quite "deep" enough to be 5* but so close. 90% Viura, 10% Malvasia, 100% fantastic Butterscotch, nutty, very light apple and oak. Almond, caramel, absolutely delicious

Been on the wishlist for quite a while, but all bottles are in @[1|52636270|Atila Van 't Hof]’s cellar so it’s hard to find at a good price. Finally found one that wasn’t and it didn’t disappoint. Low ABV (12,5%) which was a bit surprising for this climate. This is round, with custard, honey, citrus and well integrated oak with (again) surprisingly a lot of acidity to keep things interesting. ThomasW’ine Club: Blancos Excepcionales de 🇪🇸 A Spanish myth I’m happy to share. Not an easy wine at all. Hard to get, hard to understand, but a great experience that evening! Intense mushroom and nuts, orange and lemon peel, nutmeg and turmeric, bruised apple and caramel. Ever-changing. Savoury, glyceric, with a great freshness, long and complex. Happy to see such an old-school style being still alive despite the market and change of taste! Wonderfully unique, even if pricey, imho. 95 12.5% abv, cork.

Bright golden color. Complex and aromatic wine with aromas of dried apricot, honey, lemon peel and flint. Appealing hints of sherry fino. Oxidative in style and creamy. Medium body, high acid, smooth texture and well structured wine. The bottle was tasted over a period of 3 hours and it kept developing beautifully during that time. Long finish with somewhat salty, but pleasant, notes.
