Méo-Camuzet Fixin 2020

This dry red wine from the AOC Fixin, crafted by the renowned Méo-Camuzet winery, is a single-varietal Pinot Noir. It features an aromatic profile of fresh red berries, cassis, and orange peel, supported by a well-integrated structure and silky tannins on the palate.

Key facts

  • Grape variety: Pinot Noir
  • D.O. / Region: AOC Fixin (Côte de Nuits), Burgundy
  • Winery: Méo-Camuzet
  • Soil / Altitude: Soils at the foot of the slope, valley entrance
  • Ageing / Cellaring potential: Aged with minimal use of new oak

The vineyard

The grapes are sourced from selected parcels in the north of Fixey, located at the foot of the slope at the entrance of a valley. These vineyards feature vines ranging from 25 to over 50 years old, cultivated using environmentally friendly practices.

Ideal combination

Winemaking

Slow grape ripening allows for a late harvest and a gentle, low-intervention fermentation. The process focuses on natural extraction and a very limited use of new oak to preserve the natural vivacity of the fruit.

Why buy it

If you are looking for a Burgundy red with character and freshness, this bottle is an excellent addition to your cellar. Its balance of acidity and structure ensures a positive development over the coming years. Jam of raspberries and red cherries, fine herbs, white pepper, cardamom. Silky tannins and a nice finish.

Négociant grapes. Drinkability of the wine was huge surprise. Probably due to the hot vintage and gentle oak touch. Long decanting 3-4 hours. Relatively dark hue Lovely seductive nose raspberry, mushroom (in opening ) , forest floor , flowers . Green with bitterness in the beginning which has gone later. Well balanced (it would be slightly sweet for tough Bourgoune livers) Mid + Very good aging potential A-(92-93)

I got a case and let the rest of the bottles age. This one is young with a distinct taste.

Initially quite closed, this Fixin unfolds after several hours of aeration into a juicy, supple Burgundy with fine minerality and excellent drinkability. Notes of red berries, cherry, currant, and raspberry are joined by subtle spice. The tannins are smooth, the acidity well integrated. Stylistically quite reminiscent of the close Appellation Gevrey-Chambertin, yet offering remarkable value, it presents itself as a truly appealing choice. 🍷☺️

Winefinder news XIII/XIV Smaller appellation close to more famous Gevry Chambertin, almost only red. This is an quite rustic but appealing Pinot Noir in small production. Cherries, raspberries, viol Drink 2025-2032

Clear, medium ruby. Clean, medium (+) intensity, delicate primary aromas of cranberry, raspberry, strawberry and hint of pepper, secondary hint of vanilla. Dry, medium (+) acidity, medium (-) fine-grained tannin, medium alcohol, medium (-) body, pronounced intensity, delicate primary flavours of cranberry, raspberry and strawberry, secondary hint of vanilla, long finish. Enjoyed at Brasserie Blanche, their last bottle of the 2021 vintage. What a gem!

Such an elegant wine. Precise aroma of black currant, raspberry, vanilla. Taste is long, with very fine tannins and good concentration. Acidity is well balanced with the fruit. Great for a roasted chicken on a Sunday.

Wooden nose with cedar oak, forest floor, leather, smoke, cranberry, red cherry, red fruit, strawberry and pomegranate. The palate has a dry sour cherry, pomegranate, cranberry and wild strawberry.

A lovely drop. Possibly the best Fixin I’ve had. Little surprise since it’s a Meo-Camuzet. Punches above its weight class.

Medium depth. Already showing beginning maturity. Perfect rim. Tall windows. Nose is the real thing! Wild raspberry, earthy components, mushrooms, forest floor. Smooth attack. Soft and ripe tannins provide backbone. Fairly full bodied. Perfect harmony and balance. Opens up very well. The finish is complex and dynamic. Very long aftertaste. Ready to drink. Not as good as the 2019, but comes close.
