Fabio Coullet Ingénito 2021

A dry red wine made exclusively from Garnacha in the D.O. Sierras de Málaga by the Fabio Coullet winery. It offers a fresh and mineral profile with aromas of sour cherry, violets, and subtle notes of Mediterranean herbs.

Key facts

  • Grape variety: Garnacha
  • D.O. / Region: D.O. Sierras de Málaga
  • Winery: Fabio Coullet
  • Soil / Altitude: Schist and slate, 300–450 meters altitude
  • Ageing / Cellaring potential: Minimum 4 months in French oak barrels

The vineyard

The grapes come from traditional bush-trained vines in the municipality of Almáchar, within the Axarquía region. These plots are characterized by extreme slopes of up to 70% and slate soils that impart a distinct minerality to the wine.

Ideal combination

Winemaking

Hand-harvesting is paired with artisanal winemaking, utilizing 30% whole clusters and spontaneous fermentation with native yeasts. The wine then undergoes malolactic fermentation and ages for four months in French oak barrels.

Why buy it

This red wine stands out for its freshness and its faithful expression of the Malaga mountain terroir. Its balanced profile makes it a versatile choice for pairing with various dishes or enjoying on any occasion. If you are looking for a Garnacha with a unique Mediterranean character, you can buy Fabio Coullet Ingénito 2021 online directly from our shop.

This is superb for what it is. Grenache trending oak. Light and fruity yet has some decent depth. Amazing with a salad and highly versatile. Awesome first wine of the night. Interesting. Had it in Andalusia. Bought it from the producer at the Sunday market it Frigiliana.

Licorice at first; then oxidative nose of full-blown manzanillo style red wine. Very special; but very well made!

100% Garnacha from Axarquía, this see-through red wine is intense on the nose from its opening: dried rose petals, light raspberry aromas tango together with ethereal red cherry and velvety touches. On the palate it’s delicate and sensuous with light flavors of red fruit confirming its sensorial aromas. A light but not too light wine which pairs with a dishes, lightly buttered white fish. Truly incredible numbered bottles wine from a local producer. Worth every penny!

Interesting wine that very light in colour. Light body, strawberry, sour cherry, licorice. Pleasant but I’m not sure what I would pair with this. Easily overpowered.

Pale red and light, much like a light PN. A fruit bomb. Immediate strawberry jam and dried fruits eg. raisins. So fruity and light, not much else going on. Surprised at how sweet on the nose it is, a little too sweet perhaps. 21.6.24

100% Garnacha tinta with four months in oak from the Sierras de Malaga, Spain. One of the lightest wines I've ever had that makes Beaujolais & PN look like amateurs in the light wine style category. Very cherry nose, kirsch, liquorice, oak, sour cherry sweets, violets in profusion & an almost candy floss sweetness. So light on the palate! More of the sour cherry theme, strawberry, grapey, very dry with more violets. Acidity medium plus & a pleasant dry finish. 4🌟

Interesting wine. Light, both in color and taste. Aroma of sour cherry, strawberry and violet. Oak stands out on the palate. I would liken it to Beaujolais, but without the sweetness.

Self-proclaimed as ’heroic viticulture’, Fabio Coullet Bodega produces wines on steep slopes in La Axarquía, D.O.P. Sierras de Málaga. I had the bottle number 4474 of 5335 of the 2021 vintage. It’s varietal Garnacha from two hectares vineyard, aged for four months in French oak. The nose shows lots of ripe fruit, mosto, dates and madeiralike aromas. The palate is harmonious and balanced. A singular wine. Strawberry cheesecake and Schwarzwald cherry. Dry, medium bodied. Violet in the aftertaste. Medium finish.
