Raul Moreno Destellos 2024

This dry white wine from Cádiz is crafted by winemaker Raúl Moreno using Palomino and Arinto grapes. It presents a complex aromatic profile with notes of lemon peel, apricot, and a distinct saline character, supported by an unctuous yet vibrant texture.

Key facts

  • Grape variety: Palomino, Arinto
  • D.O. / Region: Cadiz
  • Winery: Raul Moreno
  • Soil / Altitude: Albariza soils
  • Ageing / Cellaring potential: Reductive ageing in chestnut casks

The vineyard

The grapes originate from organically farmed vineyards in Pago Miraflores, grafted onto old vines. These classic albariza soils impart a deep mineral backbone and freshness due to their high chalk content.

Ideal combination

Winemaking

Following a brief skin maceration, the must ferments in 700-liter chestnut casks previously used for Manzanilla and Amontillado. Reductive ageing with weekly toppings protects the wine from oxygen, ensuring precision.

Why buy it

If you are looking for a singular Andalusian white wine with a strong sense of place, this bottle is an excellent addition to your cellar. Its gastronomic profile pairs wonderfully with refined dishes and will appeal to those seeking authentic artisan wines. You can buy Raul Moreno Destellos 2024 online directly from our shop.

Blend of 75% Palomino and 25% Arinto from Andalucia. Organic and biodynamic. Minimal intervention. Spontaneously fermented and aged in used Amontillado- and Manzanilla barrels. Short maceration on the skins. Tons of minerals. Wet stones. Crushed rocks. A fresh breeze of the sea. Salty and nutty. Stone fruits and citrus. Fine structure. This is unique and so good

New vintage/lot of Sanlúcar de Barrameda-based Raúl Moreno’s scintillating ’Destellos’ (v24, 11.5% ABV, Palomino 85% y Arinto 15%, unfiltered), served by the glass @ aend in Vienna, eloquently paired w Atlantic turbot & almond yoghurt - well, the surely is the bridge of success! Pale, cloudy golden-amber-straw in appearance. Nose burst with gym chalk, Southern Spain iodine hills, almonds, yeast & grilled lemon. Bitter-salty palate, flavours echoing nose, added green apples, closing dry, taut, salty. Genious, right!

My first words upon tasting this wine was “wow, that’s different!“ it is not often that a white wine, at least for me, expresses itself in such an individual way. There is something vaguely sherryish about it, but I doubt I would have guessed that it is Palomino from the sherry area vinified as a white wine rather than as a sherry. Bursting with intense spicy flavors and a clear structure that is nevertheless not derived from acidity – – perhaps tannins from the white grape skins?

Absolute speciality, heavy duty! Intense amber-like colour, sticky. It provides a tremendous mineral complexity with a distinct saline quality that is followed by a harmonious balance of flavors of dried fruit and a refreshing, saline-driven aroma. On the palate, the wine is well-balanced, seamlessly combining its fruity elements with lively acidity and a strong indeed minerals.
