François Carillon Chassagne-Montrachet 2024

This dry white wine from the AOC Chassagne-Montrachet is made entirely from Chardonnay grapes by the prestigious François Carillon winery. It features an aromatic profile with notes of white fruit and flowers, accompanied by a fine texture, distinct salinity, and a persistent finish.

Key facts

  • Grape variety: 100% Chardonnay
  • D.O. / Region: AOC Chassagne-Montrachet, Burgundy
  • Winery: Francois Carillon
  • Ageing / Cellaring potential: 12 months in oak barrels (up to 25% new)

The vineyard

The grapes are sourced from selected plots in the Côte de Beaune region of Burgundy. The vineyards benefit from the unique terroir of the appellation, which ensures the optimal balance of freshness and complexity in the Chardonnay grapes.

Ideal combination

Winemaking

Vinification follows the winery's traditional method, beginning with a fermentation of four to six weeks. The wine is then aged for twelve months in oak barrels, with up to 25% new oak to add structure while preserving the purity of the fruit.

Why buy it

Its balance and cellaring potential make it an excellent choice for special occasions. Well made village Chassagne in a good drinking window right now. Ripe citrus fruit, peaches, stone, minerals and of course quite some butter oak tastes and aromas. Fine intensity and overall well balanced acidity with a good length.

SES MMXXV 6 Staggering seven years since I last time tried this 2015 Chassagne-Montrachet from François Carillon, now it has matured beautifully, nose of ripe peach, butterscotch, lime zest and cedar wood. Round and fully bodied on palate with a rich taste and a long finish. Drink 2025-2030

Wow, I had great expectations about this wine, somehow it still surprised me. Beautiful golden color and nice acidity. Very expressive, butter, vanilla, oak, yellow apple, pineapple, honey and so much more!

A typical CM on the nose but a bit too non complex, if you drink it let it go up in temperature

Delicious Montrachet chardonnay that's similar but distinct from the nearby Pulligny terroir by the same wine maker. Slightly less minerals with similar green apples, peaches with a bit more oak and body

Off bottle for me. Very young, tight, restrained, too much tension (almost tannic), high acidity. Overpowered with citrus , lemon and acids. Mineral but not subtle, no oak coming forward at all. Needs a lot more time to come to fruition.

Extremely creamy and buttery on the mouthfeel - which is something that doesn’t express itself enough on the nose! Light citrus flavours accompanied by minerals that assert themselves - a lot of earthiness. The finish is like yolk, and not for the faint of heart. The wine conjures an image of a lush forest.
