The vineyard

The grapes are sourced from three biodynamically farmed plots totaling less than two hectares in Chevalier-Montrachet. The clay-limestone soils of these vineyards contribute to the precise and authentic expression of the terroir.

Following a manual harvest, the grapes undergo gentle pressing and fermentation in oak barrels. The wine is then aged for twelve months in oak, followed by an additional six months of refinement in stainless steel tanks before bottling.

2017. The precision, the definition and concentration of the nose are sublime. Candied lemon, honey, citrus zest, nutmeg and just a hint of flintiness. On the palate is tense, deep, with nuts and spices, and an ethereal elegance combined with the richness. Long finish, it does not show much evolution in the glass during the night. Double decanted. Bright and zesty. Balanced oak. Nose is restrained as always, hints of flower, citrus, very mild gasoline, well balanced oak. Med to full bodied. Classic white flowers, reserved honey, some minerality. Still tart. Impressive structure and finish. No doubt age worthy and should be drinking at least 2030s.

Really crazy prices for this one which a friend opened it for starter which it seems to even kill the light reds after this. While I am not complaining I was surprised at how fast this was finish though my glass was slowly sip and the sniffing experience from it was amazing. A magnificent array of complex nose that is Dense, charming, seductive and inviting. Kind of like sea siren singing to lure you to your certain doom. "Have no fear of perfection - you'll never reach it" Salvador Dali. Ironically, Dali died the year before Leflaive converted to biodynamic! Of course I love the quintessential and inimitable Montrachet flavour splay. Marvellous acids elevating the profile and simultaneously adding intensity + grace. More than anything else I love the tension. Freshness is fighting incredibly hard to keep a lid on the richness. You can almost feel the vibration ripples. Absolutely masterful.
