Victorino 2022 Magnum

A dry red wine from the D.O. Toro region, crafted by the Teso La Monja winery. It features a concentrated profile of ripe black fruit, cocoa, spices, and toasted notes, supported by mature tannins and a long finish.

Key facts

  • Grape variety: Tinta de Toro
  • D.O. / Region: D.O. Toro
  • Winery: Teso La Monja
  • Soil / Altitude: Altitude of 750 to 850 meters
  • Ageing / Cellaring potential: 20 months in French oak barrels

The vineyard

The grapes originate from old vines aged between 45 and over 100 years, located at altitudes of 750 to 850 meters in Toro, Villabuena del Puente, and Valdefinjas. These vineyards are managed using sustainable, low-intervention agricultural practices.

Ideal combination

Winemaking

Following manual harvesting and double sorting, the destemmed grapes undergo traditional foot treading for gentle extraction. The wine macerates for 19 days and matures for 20 months in new French oak barrels.

Fruity nose - cherry blueberry blackberry some oak notes. Dark ruby colour. Palate is quite dense with cinnamon cherry blueberry spices vanilla oak blackberry notes. However, missed some structure - bold fruity notes, medium acidity, velvety tannins, not so long lasting aftertaste, expected more body, as it is medium bodied, more expression through notes. Yet pleasant one, but I don’t think it catch up the hype.

The nose is intensely aromatic, offering ripe blackberries, blueberries, and plums, interwoven with profound notes of licorice, violets, dark chocolate, and a distinct stony minerality. On the palate, it is full-bodied with velvety, well-structured tannins and a vibrant, balanced acidity. Concentrated dark fruit, spice, and mineral elements lead to an extraordinarily long, persistent finish. A magnificent, age-worthy wine that showcases the power and elegance of Toro's old vines.

Full of blackcurrant and licorice on the nose. Very smooth mouthfeel. Bold, rich, and fresh with a long finish. We'll integrated tannins, full bodied and powerful.

A big juicy Irish ribeye! Love a powerwine with this, let’s grab a Toro. Decanted this youngster for 8h to get the alcohol off. Powerful & layered nose with black juicy cherries, brambles, plums & spices (pepper, cloves & cinnamon). Quite earthy too with stable & forest floor. Cocoa, coffee, cigar box and cedar. Rich bold & concentrated body with refreshing acidity and a nice eucalyptus fraicheur. Long lingering finish with balsamic & coffee end. Young with drying tannins, but what a performer 👌. 4.5 🥰
