Marlborough Sounds Sauvignon Blanc 2025

Marlborough Sounds Sauvignon Blanc 2025 is a dry white wine from the Marlborough region of New Zealand. It features aromas of ripe stone and tropical fruits, an enveloping texture, and a fresh, well-integrated acidity.

Key facts

  • Grape variety: Sauvignon Blanc
  • D.O. / Region: Marlborough
  • Winery: Marlborough Sounds
  • Soil / Altitude: Silty and alluvial soils

The vineyard

The grapes are sourced from vineyards located between Tasman Bay and Cloudy Bay, where sunny days and cool nights promote slow ripening. The soils range from silty coastal plots near Wairau to alluvial deposits in the valley, providing a diverse terroir profile.

Ideal combination

Winemaking

Under the guidance of winemaker Josh Hammond, specific parcels are carefully selected and blended to capture the complexity of the region, maintaining the natural freshness of the Sauvignon Blanc grape.

The 2025 Marlborough Sounds Sauvignon Blanc is a straightforward example of the style that delivers exactly what you expect. A very pale straw-yellow colour. It relies on standard regional notes of passionfruit, generic citrus, and a punch of grassy green herbs. The palate is light and fresh, backed by a zesty acidity that prevents it from feeling flat. The finish is short, clean, and predictably crisp.

Great white, super juicy. You really taste that passion fruit on first sip. Gives way to tropical citrus pineapple. Very summer vibes.

Great. Tropical notes... passion fruit, lychees, pineapple, grapefruit, citrus, gooseberry. Freshly cut grass. A touch of white flowers also. Medium acidity. Nice balance. Too easy to like :).

A sweet & tangy bouquet hits your smell at first wiff. Has a smell and taste of green tomato leaves, a gentle taste of white pepper and blackberry undertones. A tinge of bitter on the palet. Good to accompany a sweet dish such as Thai food. The smell was more than the actual taste of the wine. Still a good wine to savour.

Aside from the expected passion fruit and tropical notes, this one had notes of black pepper and mint, which were very interesting

It was absolutely delicious. The dominant lemon aroma upon opening, along with the citrus and tropical fruit palate, was delightful. The pairing with crab was a match made in heaven. The grassy notes typical of NZ Sauvignon Blanc were almost absent, and considering the price, I believe it deserved a rating of 4.2
