Tamerán Listán Negro 2023

This dry red wine from D.O. Gran Canaria is an expression of the indigenous Listán Negro grape, crafted by the Tamerán winery. It features a bright cherry-red color, aromas of fresh red fruit, floral notes, and a distinct mineral character of volcanic origin.

Key facts

  • Grape variety: Listán Negro
  • D.O. / Region: D.O. Gran Canaria
  • Winery: Tamerán
  • Soil / Altitude: Sandy volcanic soils, 600–700 meters altitude
  • Ageing / Cellaring potential: 11 months in used oak barrels

The vineyard

The vineyards are located at an altitude of 600 to 700 meters above sea level on south-facing slopes. The vines grow on sandy volcanic soils, a unique environment that shapes the freshness and character of the grapes.

Ideal combination

Winemaking

The winemaking follows a philosophy of minimal intervention. Fermentation takes place in barrels using indigenous yeasts, followed by 11 months of aging in large-format used wooden vats and 228-liter barrels.

Why buy it

This Atlantic-style red stands out for its dynamic acidity and polished tannins, making it ideal for those seeking volcanic wines. Its freshness makes it a versatile companion for your table. Camaretas Vineyard - All you ask from a Canary Islands Listan Negro. Pale coloured and relatively light body, but entrancing mix of sour red fruit (cherry, red currant, sour red plum skin), smoke, pepper, spice, and tomato leaf that gives it the distinctive tomato salsa feel. Delicious balance of medium alcohol, light but notable tannin and fresh acidity make it tasty in the mouth with a medium finish.

Lovely wine to have with Anita Seaton at Starfish restaurant Royal hideway Corales...... pairs with fish extraordinarily well.....smooth and pleasant on the palate....no real follow through or tannins...quite light weight ... a glugger rather than a saver....

Light ruby in the glass. The nose leans firmly earthy, almost volcanic in tone. On the palate, a clear stony minerality runs through the wine, lifted by red fruit notes of currants and tangy cherries. The finish carries that mineral thread with quiet persistence. There is a delicacy here that calls to mind a more restrained, lighter expression of Etna.

Opaque, ruby. Strawberries, cherries, flowers. Hint of vanilla. Fresh, acidic red berries, lightly oaked. Could be mistaken for a PN. @[1|35075022|Knut Tefre]

This is another spectacular wine from volcanic soils, long, vibrant fruit, balanced , a real pleasure. An expensive Burgundian styla at a fraction of the price

Now this really stands out for me; minerals on stone on (subtle redcurrant and even red-floral notes and) more minerals, more stone (think amphora like) and all well balanced with medium acidity, medium thick body, medium long finish. Very pleasant. Let’s pair! Damn, incredibly well balanced dish once again, with Spanish pork, zucchini and the lot. Ok pairing.
