The vineyard

The grapes originate from Pago Canajas, a nine-hectare plot located at an altitude of 465 meters within the Finca Ygay. The clay-iron soil with abundant pebbles, combined with strict yield control, ensures optimal fruit concentration.

Each variety ferments separately in French Allier oak vats. The wine then undergoes 20 months of ageing in French oak barrels, followed by six months of resting in concrete tanks before bottling.

A great wine for a Sunday evening!🙌🏻🍷😊 Sadly too pricey in my opinion that’s why I don’t rate it higher. Older vintages were half of the price and that was an outstanding value… 86% Tempranillo, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon and 4% Graciano; aged for 20 months in French oak and additional 6 months in concrete vats. A very deep ruby red. Aromas and flavors of blackberries, black currants, toasted oak, cigarbox, herbs, earth, some licorice and hints of tar. A long and smooth finish. Already good to drink.

Lovely blend dominated by temperanillo. Pronounced acidity, a broad mouth of plum, oak and blackberries with a knife sharp acidity which cuts though the palate. Layered and balanced, however not at all worth the 200€ it sets you back.

Having this at the source makes it a special wine. Lovely intense nose of delicious vanilla and dark fruit. Lots of chocolate and liquorice too. Drinks easy with a long finish. Definitely has notes of red fruit like cherry and some violet too. One of the only few wines in Rioja to have Cabernet Sauvignon in it.
