Hacienda Lopez de Haro Gran Reserva Classica Rosado 2013

A dry rosé wine from D.O. Ca. Rioja produced by the Hacienda López de Haro winery. It features a complex profile with aromas of citrus, wild flowers, and subtle vanilla notes, accompanied by balanced acidity and a long finish.

Key facts

  • Grape variety: Garnacha, Viura
  • D.O. / Region: D.O. Ca. Rioja
  • Winery: Hacienda López de Haro
  • Soil / Altitude: Clay-iron terraces, high altitude
  • Ageing / Cellaring potential: 4 years in oak, high cellaring potential

The vineyard

The Garnacha and Viura grapes come from old bush vines in the Alto Najerilla area. These vines grow on high-altitude clay-iron terraces, protected by the Cantabria and Toloño mountain ranges, which promotes slow and balanced ripening.

Ideal combination

Winemaking

Following cold maceration and the traditional saignée method, the must ferments in stainless steel tanks. This age-worthy wine then undergoes an exceptional four-year aging process in oak barrels before refining in the bottle.

Why buy it

This mature rosé stands out for its longevity and an uncommon structure for its category, making it ideal for collectors. Its evolution in the bottle makes it a versatile and sophisticated gastronomic choice. If you are looking for a Rioja treasure for your cellar, you can buy Hacienda Lopez de Haro Gran Reserva Classica Rosado 2013 online directly from our shop.

One of the favourites of the night, a well structured wine that was beautiful with food. Loved the fruit, I was reaching for the Tondonia squashed satsuma note that Richie put me on to and it was subtly there. It’s not as bonkers or interesting as Tondonia but it’s also significantly less expensive.

Enjoyed sat outside Whalley Wine Bar after great hike with non-wine pal. Pithy grapefruit, bitter orange, rose. Some real spice - cardamom and ginger. And @[1|4778104|DF] absolutely right - that classic Rioja coconut. I don't drink much rioja or rosé but this is a delight!

Light salmon colored. The nose is a little sharp on alcohol. Medium body, balance. Lotsa savory quality on the palate. Drinks somewhat like a white wine.

Considering the 2013 vintage, this wine really does not show its age. Fresh red plum & strawberry, hint of dried apricot, cream, vanilla, baking spice and brioche scent. Full, textured with m+ acidity backbone. Long finish. Great value for money

Brief notes from a tasting with Jancis Robinson at Barcelona Wine Week. 3000 bottles made. 4 years in Bordeaux barrels. Mainly new oak. Savoury notes of orange zest, sage, honeycomb and cinder toffee in the background. Really evolves on the palate. Neverending finish. Lovely stuff.

Rosé, but not as most people know it. Years in barrel and bottle before release. Deep salmon pink colour. Med+ intensity nose only hints of what is to come, with strawberry, dried herbs, oak, some nutty oxidative notes. In the mouth, pronounced intensity with strawberry, raspberry, orange peel, herbs, red apple, grapefruit and nutty notes dancing across the tongue in perfect harmony. High acidity and fine, dusty tannins complete the picture. Outstanding, the legendary Tondonia version must be quite something.

Traditional Rioja with graceful maturity.
Dried red fruit, leather, spice and cedar on the nose. The palate is smooth and balanced, with resolved tannins and fresh acidity. Savoury and elegant, finishing long and composed. Very well aged. [DFWE 25]

Backlogged blindfaith tasting note. Fresh & crunchy fruits, raspberry, pomegranate, licorice, nutmeg, vanilla, coconut, enriched by mushroom & earthy backbone. Savory & intense on the palate, saline, earthy, spicy with solid acidity and minerality, with a touch of tannic structure as a good support. Very youthful with a good potential.

Clear with medium orange - red colour. Clean nose with medium intensity and aromas of sour cherry, strawberry jam, vanilla, licorice and prune. The nose is developing. Dry palate with medium acidity, rounded tannins with medium - intensity, medium alcohol and medium body. Medium intensity flavor of sour cherry jam, licorice and prune. Medium+ finish with aftertaste of sour cherry jam and licorice. Drink it now, no further ageing potential. Very good QPR!

My first Rioja Rosado was one for the ages! I don’t think I’ve ever experienced a 12 year-old rosé, and this one derived from 50% Garnacha and 50% Viura then aged an astounding 8 years in French oak really expands your mind as to the possibilities of the format. Paired with a trout in beurre blanc dish at Venta Moncalvillo in Daroca de Rioja, the palate was subdued at first but came alive with the food, with notes of orange peel, cherry, strawberry, smoke and minerality.

Apricot pink, smells like smoky gasoline, tastes like walnut, over ripe plum and then banana in the end, medium finish. You'll talk about this one

The clue to how this tastes is in the description Rioja, Gran Reserva, Oaked etc quite different from Provence Rose and all the better for it, quite simply the best Rose I have ever tasted , paired superbly with baked garlic prawns, salmon & orange rind cheeses to compliment its autumnal scents on the nose, orange rind light spice notes & waxy smooth finish that lingers on and on, wonderful considering many Rose wines can be a bit of a moderate hit or miss
