El Enemigo Chardonnay 2023

This dry white wine from Mendoza is produced by the Aleanna winery under the El Enemigo project. It features a complex aromatic profile with notes of lemon, ginger, and cardamom, complemented by a distinct saline mineral character on the palate.

Key facts

  • Grape variety: 100% Chardonnay
  • D.O. / Region: Mendoza (Gualtallary, Tupungato)
  • Winery: Aleanna
  • Soil / Altitude: Alluvial soils, 1400-1500 meters above sea level
  • Ageing / Cellaring potential: 12 months in French oak barrels

The vineyard

The grapes originate from high-altitude vineyards in Gualtallary, Tupungato, situated between 1,400 and 1,500 meters above sea level. This mountain terroir provides natural freshness and a well-defined acidity to the fruit.

Ideal combination

Winemaking

The wine is aged for 12 months in French oak barrels, which imparts volume, structure, and subtle spicy nuances while preserving its varietal freshness.

Why buy it

Its medium-to-full body and gastronomic versatility make it suitable for pairing with a wide range of dishes. Toast and cream and yeast. But also very dry and minerally- salt and stone. Eaten with a selection of fish and stood up to each dish. Incredibly rich and flavourful.

Had not drunk an oaky Chardonnay in a while and felt like this was a good way to taste my way back in to this particular sphere of wine! The oak isn’t overpowering and the Chardonnay still has some space to express itself! Butter, pear, lemon, pineapple, cream, honeysuckle, oil and minerals all over. Medium finish. Very good.

I didn’t taste the oak nor cream, but this wine went very well with our spiced BBQ spare ribs. Take with salty / savory dishes!

A lot of butter on the nose. On palate vanilla at the finish, oak, toasted almond. Really nice wine, not sweet, with medium to higher acidity, pretty, much strong body. Good price for a quality. Recommending.

A lot of good French oak a little overpowering the fruit but not the bright acidity. Alcohol warming but only 13%. Long salty finish with creamy, oily texture and salty notes. Very good wine if you like the significant touch of the oak and new world style. For me too much oak, maybe could be integrated in next few years.

Light golden yellow complexion. The nose is classic chard notes of toasted vanilla, warm mealty butter, a bit of guava, a touch of tangelo, evergreen, herbal with sage oil and river bed sentiment. High acidity for a chard…in a good way, lemon crème - though perfectly balanced - it’s not too rich, the toasted vanilla sits right behind, the herbal note hits next and butter with just a bit of tangelo and a hint of salinity. Crisp, refreshing.

This is good stuff and would mostly likely cost double if it was from Burgundy. Nose: Pear, stone fruit and iron and if you really go looking for it then you can get ever so slightly butter, but it is really hidden. Palate: Lime with a bit of apple and butter. On the finish there is some spice, coriander and white pepper for me.

I just wish that we could get the reds aside from the CF. 👃of citrus, caramel, white pepper, honey. 👅is medium acidity, dry, long length. 4.1🌟 Up next, Go Habs 🏒 Go 🇨🇦!

Very perfumed, Jasmine, white flowers, mild popcorn. Given during blind tasting, thought it was viognier, but it’s a floral chard

Really top notch for the price. Love the oak, buttery note and little bit of a bitter edge to keep it balanced. Minerality and more rounded stone fruit. Close to a cellar staple
