Domaine Leflaive Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru 2022

This dry white wine comes from the prestigious AOC Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru in Côte de Beaune, Burgundy. It features aromas of pear, white flowers, and toasted hazelnuts, balanced by a silky texture, vibrant acidity, and a long, persistent finish.

Key facts

  • Grape variety: Chardonnay
  • D.O. / Region: AOC Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru, Burgundy
  • Winery: Domaine Leflaive
  • Soil / Altitude: Clay-limestone
  • Ageing / Cellaring potential: 12 months in oak and 6 months in vats

The vineyard

The Chardonnay grapes are sourced from a single 1.15-hectare plot with clay-limestone soils, planted in 1958 and 1959. The vineyard is cultivated according to strict biodynamic principles to preserve the natural character of the site.

Ideal combination

Following a gentle pneumatic pressing, the must ferments in oak barrels. The wine is aged for 12 months in oak and then refined for an additional 6 months in stainless steel vats before bottling.

Tasted the 2010. Absolutely stunning. Still incredibly lively, with remarkable tension and a pronounced mineral backbone. Layers of pear ice cream, toasted hazelnuts, and subtle citrus unfold across the palate, balancing richness with freshness. The finish is the longest I’ve experienced in a white wine, seemingly endless, with waves of fruit, nuts, and minerality. A breathtaking Grand Cru at its peak.

Nuts, browned butter, lemon, lemon zest, minerality, oak, peach, lilac, licorice, cream and . Nice acidity and minerality, dry yet mouth watering at the same time. Very high concentration, great length. Lots of ocean aromatics with time. Fantastic now, but could benefit from a few more years to further integrate the oak.

Very Leflaive! The nuance of vanilla, yellow fruits and spicy & bitter honey hit me with elegance. Acid and mineral were balanced. No essence stands out. I enjoyed the Grand Cru with shrimp cocktail and sauté of tilefish.

A concoction of matchstick reduction, burnt toffee popcorn, honey and yellow apple, floral notes develop after 2 hrs, structured and medium to high concentration, tasted much younger than i thought

More honey 🍯 and oak. Slight citrus, but not much. I like the length on this compared to the Grand Cru Batard Montrachet. The oak finish makes the grape interesting.

The smoky, salty mineral taste and acidity really make my mouth water. Even though it has 14% alcohol, it doesn't feel strong or uncomfortable. It might not be the most elegant wine ever, but it's a great wine with the complexity I expect from a grand cru. - 94

Outstanding wine and super fun head to head vs 2020. I liked the 2020 better right now, but 2019 will likely be a superior wine and needs a little more time. At Burgundy Council Fete de Burgundy at CC

Shiny golden yellow. Rich aromas of honeysuckle, smokey wood. Big on the palate, reductive in style, minerality, and a mild lime, peach honey flavor. Acidity just nice, long lasting finish with lots of depth. A very classic fabulous burgundy. How I wish I can drink this daily. 😍

Peach, apple, mango, honeysuckle, honey, flint, smoke, wax, oyster shell, lemon curd, cream, brioche, almond, toast, and vanilla. An expressive, fresh, and powerful profile flavor. Finishes chewy, sappy, and long with saline character. Bravo!

Mandarin orange for days. Citrus zest, lemon curd, almond and sweet perfume. A thrusting mouthful of floral notes before a very, very long finish. A Grand Cru in every way. The word that keeps coming to mind is ‘luxurious’. This was a 5-star hotel of wine. Titans Dinner white wine of the night. Titans Dinner second white flight.

BYOB blind at Oswalds. Ebony’s btl. 23y6m. Med gold. 1h air. Sweeter nose than the other whites, tropical fruits, mango, honey, hazelnut, baking spices, some oak & light minerals. Slightly sweet on the nose. Dynamic & engaging palate, lively tropical fruits, spices, oak & minerals. Similar to the 05 but a bit more tertiary notes, more minerality. Paints a maldives vacation. V high conc & length, high acid, full body. Now to 2038. 96p

JP. Muted oak, walnut, citrus on the nose. Rich, concentrated palate, intense minerality, ripe citrus, almost honey like. But precise, balanced acidity lingers. Robust, long finish: nuts, musk. Spectacular

4.7/5(quality) Exceptional quality, ordinary value. Initially round in texture, this Chardonnay offers predominantly citrusy fruit flavors with medium-plus acidity. It features subtle nuttiness, tanginess, and a long finish with delicate smokiness. Despite a somewhat restrained aroma, its intense flavor, complexity, and elegant finish make it a standout Burgundy Chardonnay. Expected to remain fresh and develop further for at least 10 years. Overall, it's a nearly perfect and the top!

Medium to medium + body with a medium oak touch and a medium to medium + acidity. Notes of dried lemon, sour apricot, citrus butter, popcorn and honey. Fresh and vibrant with richness and oak influence, that is present and precise, with out being profound. Refreshing acidity that is slightly more mellow then usual, course of the hot vintage. Classic Leflaive aroma profile, with all there is too love, is already drinking lovely.

After letting it rest for a while, I opened it. The scent and color are wonderful. The sharp texture, volume, nutty aroma, and rich aftertaste are second to none. I had it with sea urchin mousse.
