Castell d’Encus Acusp 2020

Castell d’Encus Acusp 2020 is a dry red wine made from Pinot Noir in the D.O. Costers del Segre. It features delicate aromas of wild blueberries, fresh blackberries, and soft tobacco, balanced by a lively acidity and an elegant finish.

Key facts

  • Grape variety: Pinot Noir
  • D.O. / Region: D.O. Costers del Segre
  • Winery: Castell d'Encus
  • Soil / Altitude: Clay-limestone soils, 1,000 meters altitude
  • Ageing / Cellaring potential: Malolactic fermentation in French oak barrels

The vineyard

The grapes are sourced from high-altitude vineyards situated at 1,000 meters above sea level in the Pyrenees. This cool mountain climate ensures a slow ripening process, preserving the natural freshness and varietal character of the grapes.

Ideal combination

Winemaking

Following a manual harvest, fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks and historic 12th-century stone vats carved into the rock. The wine then undergoes malolactic fermentation in French oak barrels to enhance its complexity.

Why buy it

This high-altitude red wine stands out for its freshness and complexity, making it an excellent addition to any collection of fine wines. Its unique character will bring elegance to your special occasions. If you wish to experience this exceptional mountain wine, you can buy Castell d’Encus Acusp 2020 online directly from our shop.

Nose of earth, coffee, marzipan and hazelnut, ripe red and dark berries. In the mouth there is mild, lov acidity with soft tannins. Juicy finish.

High- altitude Spanish Pinot Noir hailing from the foothills of the Pyrenees in Costers del Segre. Perfumed and expressive, featering aromas of cranberries, raspberries , red cherries and strawberries, intermixed with delicate floral jasmine and crushed vine flowers and subtle hints of exotic spice and nobleoak. Silky and multi- dimensional . Bright red fruit flavors are balanced by vibrant acidity , showcasing crisp, sweet tannins and hints of subtle licorice, tobacco and vanilla. Long, fresh and persistent!

Did you know that 🇪🇸 does some of the best Pinot Noir in the world? Well, at least one 😉 Quite reduced upon opening, it gradually offered peony, camphor and mint, crisp strawberry and raspberry, rose and clove, iron, earth and orange rind. Delicate, complex. Light and aerial, but with a real presence, backed by super fine powdery tannins, and a very high acid that needs food, to a very long finish, with wild strawberry, vegetal and iron notes. Complete. Special but brilliant. 94 12.5% abv, cork.

Acusp 2018 opens with an elegant, aromatic nose featuring notes of fine tobacco, mountain blueberries and fresh blackberries, alongside its characteristic red-fruit purity. The palate begins with a sharp, precise entry, followed by nuances of cherry and dried vine shoots. The wine is refined, long and beautifully balanced, showing tension and finesse throughout. An elegant, high‑altitude Pinot Noir, Burgundy style with a vibrant profile and good length.

Elegant and nuanced. Medium-bodied with well-integrated and smooth medium tannins and an alert, lively medium+ acidity that provides structure. Red berry and slightly earthy with elements of raspberry, pomegranate, blood orange, some dried mushroom and dried herbs and a somewhat smoky minerality.

Very elegant and rich Pinot Noir from Catalunya. Best ever Spanish PN a I’ve ever tried, including Torres outpost in California. Notes of cherry, earthy, overall there is berryish impression, very balanced and smooth.

d'Encus D.O. Costers del Segre / Pinot Noir Castell d'Encus is one of the most innovative projects on the Catalan wine-producing panorama. Raul Bobet, its architect, is considered by many as one of the best producers. This is a fine, delicate, perfumed, light and very long wine. Produced above 1000m high it can be considered a mountain wine.

Perhaps should have gone for a younger vintage. Smells like bog, tastes like vanilla, blood, red fruit and herbs. Overpriced.

Another one from Castell D’Encus in de Spanish Pyrenees, a Pinot Noir this time! Slightly herbal, fruity nose with red cherry, red currant, raspberry, red berry marmalade and a pinch of white pepper followed by a fruity palate with fine, pure acidity, molten tannins, red cherry, raspberry, a touch of mocha and nice finish.

Pyrenees Pinot Noir? Yes! Thanks @[1|2108048|Frederic Knockaert]! Many of the things that I love in PN - skinny character, fine tannins, elegant, light spiciness. In comparison to its German counterparts rather mellow acidity. Meat note, toast, green herbs, earthy aromas, cherry, raspberry, red currant, fine oak.

Unbelievable. That barnyard nose that is a classic Burgundy feature with deep and rich (almost sweet) red cherry in the palate. Amazing persistence. We loved it. Paired well with duck.

This must be one of the best Pinot Noirs in Spain. Very good structure. Moderate alcohol, rare these days. Cherry, raspberry, roses, minerals and aromatic wood. Long finish, with lots of typicity.

Cherry, strawberry, violin, earthy (leather, mushrooms, forest floor, stone) and some oak in the nose. Some pepper and a light punch added to the palate. Nice and gentle medium-long aftertaste.

Probably the best Pinot N. from Catalonia and Spain, produced by one of the best wine makers, Raul Bobet. The vines grow in the Catalan Pyrenees at a high altitud in order to get all the freshness and purity of the Pinot... and he achieved it! It is very well done and quite complex, which will get much better in the coming years. Fragrant aromas, raspberries, black pepper, very flowery (roses) and a bit mineral. Hints of oak. Delicate and delicious palate, medium-light body, very fresh, silky tannins and long!
