Pinea 2018

This dry red wine from D.O. Ribera del Duero, crafted by the Pinea winery, is a single-varietal Tempranillo. It features a deep aromatic profile with notes of dark fruits, cocoa, and cedar, supported by a firm structure and polished tannins.

Key facts

  • Grape variety: Tempranillo
  • D.O. / Region: D.O. Ribera del Duero
  • Winery: Pinea
  • Soil / Altitude: Clay-loam soils, >900 m altitude
  • Ageing / Cellaring potential: 24 months in French oak barrels

The vineyard

The grapes are sourced from old vines over 30 years of age, situated at an altitude of more than 900 meters. The clay-loam soils of the estate contribute remarkable complexity and concentration to the fruit, reflecting the region's high-altitude terroir.

Ideal combination

Winemaking

Following a meticulous selection, the wine undergoes spontaneous fermentation. It is then aged for 24 months in French oak barrels, enhancing its structure and adding subtle spicy and smoky nuances.

Why buy it

This red wine represents the peak of high-altitude viticulture in the region. Its balanced structure and long finish make it an ideal choice for special occasions or for cellaring. If you are looking for a sophisticated experience, you can buy Pinea 2018 online directly from our shop.

Last tasting was 2024. Updated rating. Bouquet has smoke, campfire, chocolate. Dark fruit-blackberry. Medium body, tannins are fully incorporated. Mild acidity and acceptable balance. Finish falls off a bit but not a serious flaw. Sour plum, raspberry, ripe blackberry RVA

Wonderful deep ruby red color, earthy blackberry aroma with a oak, chocolate, leather, & smoke favors throughout the drink experience. I love the Temprenillo grape. Beautiful finish!

Excellent Tempranillo from Ribera del Duero. Complex with notes of balsamic, black fruit, plum, cedar, cocoa, and a touch of anise. Full-bodied with a silky texture and a long, very pleasant finish.

More oak, leather, earth and Tobacco than the Pinea 17. Spectacular and well done wine that should hold well cellared for 10+ years

The beautiful perfumy aromas and tremendous complexity from previous vintages remains. However, the fruit has more of a leading role in the 2019 vintage, which makes this wine more drinkable and enjoyable than 2014, 2017 or 2018 at younger stage chocolate earthy blackberry leather smoke dark fruit cassis coffee dark chocolate tobacco forest floor mint cigar box black cherry cherry raspberry red fruit lavender fig caramel cedar cigar balsamic cocoa minerals mushroom stone black fruit jam strawberry anise savory.

VinExpo Asia 2025 at Marina Bay Sands Expo in Singapore 🇸🇬 with Hugo. Signature wine that’s named after the Pinus Pinea tree that overlooks the vineyard. Fermented and aged entirely in French oak, using Tempranillo exclusively from the Cardisanto plot. 80% new, 20% used. Loamy clay soils. Pronounced intensity with black fruits, spice, wood, leather. Intense on palate. Magnum format. Had on day1&3, showed positive evolution. 1 for the cellar. 4th best wine in 🇪🇸 - Wine Spectator

100% Tempranillo. Prefer Psoul in comparison for its overall structure but this has better density and richness. Would love to revisit this as I had this on its 3rd day of opening so nose was slightly off

Nose of oak, vanilla, and earth. Faint tannins on the palate, with plum and spice. Balanced.

Deep ruby red color with a garnet rim. Clean and bright. Layers of aromas from spicy tones of the oak, and the characteristics of the fruit. A powerful wine and with an elegant approach that is velvety and rich from start to finish. Excellent body with abundant but not overpowering tannin and well integrated alcohol, achieving balance and savory end. The palate leaves flavors of black forest fruits, and spices such as clove, black pepper, and leaves a smoky finish that gives it great length. Needs more aging.

Musical Tempranillo that perfectly balanced acidity and tart dark red fruit. All the typical cigar box flavors of the region. Super clean and warm spices that are persistent.

The nose is regal and highly perfumed , expressing the classic fruit profile of Tempranillo with its own unique finesse . Black forest fruits, smoky plum and blueberry preserves dominate with hints of cacao powder, vanillin and cedar wood playing a supporting, background role. The palate broods with fresh black plum and wild berry compote laced with high toned red fruits. The wine has broad shoulders, but also soft edges with chalky tannins and a lively mineral vein, driving a long and supple aftertaste!

I thought this would be a good wine to follow a Bevan Cabernet Sauvignon, since I remember how rich and bold the Tempranillo juice was the last time I sampled it. Rookie mistake. The Bevan was more concentrated and should have been the 2nd wine. It didn’t take away from this beauty though. Amazing grace and elegance that old world wines dazzle with. Still bold and concentrated. A fun. Ugh t to compare old & new with good friends. Cheers!!
