Field blend, Tempranillo, Viura and Graciano. 0.7 hectares planted in 1920 at 600 meters. Early pick, so has lots of acidity and the fruit is not over ripe. 10mos in 600l oak barrels. 13.5% Fruit purity. Herb. Aromatic. Luxurious tannins with just a bit of bite on the finish.

Another phenomenal Rioja blend by Oxer Bastegieta! Vigorous scents and tastes with very earthy aromas of rainy forest, nuts and tobacco. Tastes of blackberries, cacao, and oak, long firm tannins.

Vibrant ruby red, it bursts with ripe cherries, raspberries, wild herbs, and mineral hints, exuding elegance and freshness. Powerful yet refined at 14% alcohol, it offers fine, chalky tannins, ripe fruit, and a chalky, lingering finish after 10 months in French/Austrian oak. Rated 96+ by Wine Advocate, drink 2024-2034 with grilled meats or tapas.

New school rioja. Tannins are held back, fruit forward. Not super oaky. Yum!

Barcelona Wine Week. Just brief impressions. Awesome opportunity to try some of Oxer wines, one of the most interesting producers in Spain right now. Probably the best tannins I’ve had in a while, is that grippy and sexy tannin that melts in your mouth even this young. Blend of Tempranillo, Viura and Graciano. Intense wine, lots of red fruit, earthy and forest notes with soft spices. Amazing wine, totally recommended (but needs at least 3-4 years).

The Tartalo 2019 is a blend of 87% Tempranillo, 10% Viura and 3% Graciano. The fermentation is carried out in open vats & barrels using indigenous yeast. The wine ages in oak barrels for 12 months. Nose: ripe dark berries, dried plums, herbal and animal notes. Palate: fruity, more wet stone now, leather, very nice acidity, kind of edgy tannins (needs more time, I guess); very long finish. Only 1‘537 bottles produced. By the way, Tartalo is the name of an enormously strong one-eyed Basque giant. 🫣

Quite closed but solid structure. Too young now. A collectible keeper. 27Oct23: immediately the bouquet jumped right out of the glass. Black Cherry, chocolate, mocha, mint and cedar cedar cedar… more harmonious and integrated. Clean mouthfeel and long finish. Shall try another next year or something. Can’t wait to see how it evolves.

Bolder than Suzzane and Kalamity, this flagship has a lot of oomph cum elegance that will even attract the bigger weapon camps or godzillas and the likes…Oh, lots of spices too, at least at the beginning. I opened at 11am and it was ready to drink by 12:30pm. No wonder it's 87% Tempranillo (and 10% Viura + 3% Graciano). I drank slowly until 3pm and continued the remaining 60% from 7:30pm to 10pm. Truly awesome stuff. Expensive but worth every penny!

Bizarre. Needs at least 5 more years but already spectacular. Tannins that will eat your tongue. A nose full of herbs that doesn't betray what will happen on the palate, but when it hits... Fireworks. Pure, unadulterated Rio a made with unimaginable skill. Concentrated beyond words.
