The vineyard

The grapes originate from the historic Matarromera estate in Valbuena de Duero. The vineyards thrive in clay-limestone soils under a continental climate with significant temperature shifts, which ensures balanced grape ripening.

Following fermentation, the wine undergoes ageing in selected French and American oak barrels with a light toast. It is then refined in the bottle to smooth its tannins while preserving the pure fruit character.

A very easy wine to drink. I know the Gran Reserva well, and while there is a difference in weight and fullness on the palate between the two, the Crianza for the money is definitely worth a try. We drank the 2023 with medium rare entrecôte. Good pairing.

Really nice wine, mostly for a crianza. On the palate we noticed the black fruits mostly, with some light earth and leather notes. Fruity, but full bodied with that extra slight oak. A bit heavy on the tannins. Overall, a really good wine, typical of a Matarromera.
