Marimar Estate La Masía Don Miguel Vineyard Pinot Noir 2021

A dry red wine made from Pinot Noir in the AVA Russian River Valley by Marimar Estate. It features a cherry hue with aromas of raspberry, orange peel, and violet, complemented by delicate tannins and subtle floral notes of lavender on the palate.

Key facts

  • Grape variety: Pinot Noir
  • D.O. / Region: AVA Russian River Valley (Sonoma County)
  • Winery: Marimar Estate
  • Soil / Altitude: Rolling hills, cool and foggy climate

The vineyard

The Don Miguel vineyard is located in the Green Valley, one of the coolest and foggiest areas of the region. Proximity to the Pacific Ocean provides a constant marine breeze that cools the vines. The vineyard is cultivated with high planting density in the European style, which naturally limits yields and enhances grape concentration.

Ideal combination

What an elegant Pinot noir from the cool Green Valley of the Russian River Valley, balancing vibrant red and dark fruits, nuanced French oak and a lingering finish. The nose display a complex bouquet of black cherry, raspberry and plum with undertones of orange peel, clove and vanilla. Rich and bright acidity that balances perfectly with the layers of dark berries and black tea. Long, velvety and perfectly round finish with elegant, silky tannins that promises a long life in the bottle.

Marimar Estate - La Masia, Pinot Noir, 2021 Russian River, Sonoma County, CA. 10 M in 30% new French oak, rest in 1-3 yr old oak. Oak, vanilla, caramel, cherry, raspberry, strawberry, cranberry, earthy, tobacco. I love their Cristina, Russian River Pinot Noir & this is like a mini version of that wine. Its got plushness, oak sweetness, alcohol strength. Lovely Sonoma PN, will drink again. Just can´t stop refilling the glass. 92p

Pronounced sweet cherry nose, ripe strawberries, raspberry, forest floor, toast Dry, med acid, med alcohol, med tannins, med flavour, med bodied, med finish. The body is quite light in contrast to the alcohol, quite a hot finish. Very ripe red fruit. Developing, drink now, not suitable for ageing, I don’t think there is enough fruit concentration and intensity on the palate.

This Pinot Noir offers a classic Russian River profile with deep notes of dark woodland berries, black cherries, orange peel and sassafras accented by clove, dried roses , sandalwood and earthy hints of forest leaves and cigar box tones. Savory , smooth and rounded in the mouth, supported by silky tannins, vibrant acidity and an elegant structure, promising excellent aging potential. Long, focused and balanced aftertaste!

Very pleasant. Fruit forward. Medium, maybe medium-full body. Cherry. Sweet but not excessively. Not a great deal for the Vivinio price of $50, but I think I got it for around $35, and it's good value at that price.

An outstanding Pinot from Green Valley, the coolest & foggiest region of the Russian River. Destemmed, 13.5% abv., 8 months in (30% new) French oak barrels. Ruby red colour. Plenty of raspberry, red plum & cherry joined by some cassis on top of pepper, liquorice & eucalyptus. Leather, earthy and also vegetal notes of bell pepper. Smoke, toast & tobacco underneath. Magnificent balance on the palate. Medium body. Silky tannins, medium but fresh acidity. Long harmonious finish. Everything is just in place.

Praia - Cabo Verde This wine often benefits from some aging, allowing it to evolve and develop even more complexity over time. Whether enjoyed on its own or paired with rich dishes like duck, lamb, or fungi-based meals, Marimar is an excellent choice for those looking to explore the exquisite nuances of Russian River Valley.
