The vineyard

The grapes are sourced from the Peña Caballera parcel, located at an altitude of 850 meters with a northern exposure in San Martín de Valdeiglesias. Over 50-year-old vines grow on decomposed granitic, sandy-loam soils with low organic matter, promoting slow and balanced ripening.

Wow. Very savoury take on Grenache. I’m so used to Aussie Grenache which has an inherent sweetness of fruit. This is very dry and the tannins are very grippy. Love it though.

Fruit from a vineyard in Madrid DO. Lower altitude and warmer than the wines from the Gredos Mountians (e.g. Comando G). This is still a lean and crunchy wine, but the fruit is a bit darker and much more spicy than something like the Rumbo. Not quite as ethereal as the top Gredos wines, not even the 4 Monos which is much closer in price than something like Rumbo. However, still a pretty amazing wine. Certainly way better than the V avg suggests. Red fruit. Mint. Herb. Dusty. Crunchy. Crushed rock. Dark finish.

Hurry Up And Wait (Stereophonics) When I get thirsty (or bored) on a Sunday afternoon I usually open a light red and this 100% Garnacha was a real stunner! A nose full of berries, balsamic and minerals. A mouth full of black fruit, dried strawberries and herbs. And a long, lingering finish. I got this bottle as a present so I was intrigued, so on further investigation I found out this wine got +90 scores all over, the grapes are from an organic vineyard and it’s about 20 euros! What are you waiting for?
