LAUS Tinto Joven 2024

This dry red wine from D.O. Somontano is a blend of Merlot and Syrah crafted by the Laus winery. It offers a fresh profile with aromas of red fruits and wild berries, complemented by a soft, velvety texture on the palate.

Key facts

  • Grape variety: Merlot, Syrah
  • D.O. / Region: D.O. Somontano
  • Winery: Laus
  • Soil / Altitude: Limestone and stony, 350-400 m altitude
  • Ageing / Cellaring potential: Young (no oak ageing)

The vineyard

The grapes are sourced from vineyards in the southern Somontano region, situated at an altitude of 350 to 400 meters. The poor, stony limestone soils naturally limit grape yields. The warm, dry climate of the area ensures optimal ripening and excellent grape health.

Ideal combination

Winemaking

The Merlot and Syrah grapes are fermented separately at gentle temperatures to preserve their primary fruit aromas. Following malolactic fermentation, the final blend is assembled and bottled.

Why buy it

If you are looking for a young, balanced red wine for casual occasions, this bottle is an ideal choice. Its fruit-forward character and smooth finish make it a highly versatile companion for various dishes. You can buy LAUS Tinto Joven 2024 online directly from our shop.

Simple, young Spanish red blend of Merlot and Syrah from Somontano. Ruby red color. Ripe red fruit and floral notes on the nose. Light to medium-bodied on the palate, with fresh acidity and soft tannins. An easy-drinking everyday wine.

Easygoing Spanish red blend of Syrah and Merlot. Imho a fast made and little rough wine; unrefined and showing some bitters that are reminiscent to cheap Pinotage. Correct wine but certainly no highflier. 13 pts

A simple entry level red but it has lovely sour cherry notes an a good touch of spice.

Medium ruby / purple in the glass. Nose of blueberry, stewed raspberry and blackberry. Hint of black pepper. Palate is slightly lacking in structure. Fruity on the palate with same notes of nose. Very fruit forward and smooth. One of the most concentrated fruit wines I have had. Only fruit acidity, minimal tannin and no complexity which unfortunately makes this quite average. Still a fun young wine.

Dark cherry colour. On nose, toasted aroma, cinnamon, licorice and fine spices. On palate, red fruits, nice acidity, slight mineralisation and noble oak remembrance embedded in velvetly tannins within a well balanced structure leading to a long, pleasent ending.

(3.8) Underrated Somontamo Joven, amazing wine - bone dry with loads of minerals and nice acid structure Cabernet Sauvignon, malolactid fermented. Oak aged. Chalky and intense wth a juvenil approach. Flavours of cassis, raspberry, toasted wood, brioche and young tannins. Lovely finish with chocolate notes and salinity. Great wine, not mainstream.
