The vineyard

The grapes are sourced from vineyards situated at altitudes between 400 and 700 meters in the Somontano valleys. A diverse mix of limestone, clay, and stony soils contributes distinctive complexity and depth to the Merlot variety.

Following an extended one-month maceration to enhance structure, the wine undergoes malolactic fermentation and ages for 15 months in new French oak barrels.

Well balanced and approachable Merlot with a fruit-forward profile. Dominated by red fruit such as strawberry and cherry with secondary notes of spice and earth. Medium+ body with soft tannins and balanced acidity make this an easy drinker. Oak influence is restrained and well integrated. Despite the higher alcohol it remains controlled and does not ‘burn’. The wine delivers at the price but does not particularly stand out - though that may be expected from Merlot? The true value here is knowing ahead what you get

(15,5/20) 100% Merlot from Spain, not a typical monocepage you'll find there and hence my first ☺️ Fermented in steel tanks, aged for 15 months in new French oak barrels. Soft and velvety, high alcohol well-integrated and despite the alcohol quite fresh even. More than decent Merlot. Medium intense aromas of violet, blackcurrant, blackberry, black cherry, tomato leaf, black pepper, liquorice, bay leaf, graphite, vanilla. 15% ABV - €28,65 @ Decantalo

Vintage is 2021. Don't know why Vivino isn't more current sometimes. this is a Spanish Big Bad Boy version of merlot, built for aging drinking BTG at 2pm. bottle was opened last night & poured 3 times. pronounced nose of black plum, prune, raisin, clove, baking spices, chocolate, pipe tobacco some might say overoaked pronounced palate follows, dry but fruit sweet, hi acid, hi fruit concentration, med+ velvety tannins, hi alcohol needs to age a bit, full bodied, med- finish drops off quick unfortunately

I bought this as it was a ✅ wine and makes for a Spanish full house! It is rather a bruiser from Somontano 15% alcohol 13 months in new French oak Mid ruby colour On the nose, red and black fruits. Vanilla, spice, tar, leather and cedar Fully ripe fruit. Dark plum, black cherry, raspberry, blackberry Liquorice, balsamic Earthy Eucalyptus and medicinal notes Lots of vanilla Spicy notes of cinnamon, clove and nutmeg Silky smooth tannins. Lacking in acidity though Not really my style of wine
