Domaine Rostaing Côte-Rôtie La Landonne 2010

A dry red wine from the AOC Côte Rôtie, crafted by the prestigious Domaine Rostaing. It features a complex aromatic profile with notes of cured olives, roasted meat, and ripe fruits, supported by a firm structure and a long finish.

Key facts

  • Grape variety: Syrah
  • D.O. / Region: AOC Côte Rôtie
  • Winery: Domaine Rostaing
  • Soil / Altitude: Schist soils on steep slopes
  • Ageing / Cellaring potential: Aged in traditional barrels and large-format casks

The vineyard

The Syrah grapes are sourced from the famous La Landonne vineyard in the northern Rhône. This terroir is characterized by steep schist slopes, which impart a distinct minerality and concentration to the grapes.

Ideal combination

Winemaking

Aging takes place in a combination of traditional barrels and large-format casks. The winery uses a very low proportion of new oak to preserve the purity of the fruit and the authentic expression of the vineyard.

Why buy it

This red wine is an excellent choice for collectors seeking a cellar-worthy bottle with great aging potential. Its balance and complexity make it a valuable addition to any fine wine collection. If you wish to experience this Rhône classic, you can buy Domaine Rostaing Côte-Rôtie La Landonne 2010 online directly from our shop.

2010. First tasted with René from a bottle opened 3d before: delicious - entering its drinking windows, delicate savouriness and spices tertiarization are perfectly balanced by a black fruit still lively. Liquorice, little smoke, and black fruits (blackberry, cassis). Tannins still very present, approaching peak but maybe more room to get there. Then another bottle opened at home was much less ready - more spices and black fruits, tannins still biting. So either wait ~5 more years or give it time. Average 94/100

Big bold with a lot of fruits and tannins, a baby that needs another 10 years imo.

Dark red, earthy, tannins were perfect, super smooth. Less fruit and more serious than my favorites so far like Gerin’s Champin, but that resonates with how people describe the style.

This wine clearly displays the classic character of Syrah with notes of blackberry, plum, black cherry, licorice, violet, pepper, oak, cedar, cream, leather, and mushroom. But considering the price point, it falls short of expectations. It’s too delicate and soft to leave a lasting impression, lacking the intensity and structure needed to elevate it. If it delivered double the depth and concentration, it could have been a truly remarkable wine.

Distinct white pepper in the nose. Mature notes of iron, charcuterie and blackberries. Very long taste. Beautiful, and still with a few years left…

Pale brick red. Quite floral but with tertiary aromas too. Herbaceous notes as well as oak, tobacco, leather. Tannins still linger around quite a bit but good structure. Feels like this one can still do another 10 years.

Perfume, violet, cedar, charred wood. Younger than what it actually is. Classic.

67 Pall Mall from cellar. Took 5h to open. Deep ruby. N: intense violet, perfume, cassis, blackberry, lilac, cocoa, cedar, pepper & smoke. Floral, perfumed & dark. P: black fruits, pepper -> baking spices, lac, cocoa -> cassis, cedar, smoke & violet. High conc, length, acid & grippy tannins, full bod. This came across much riper than expected, lots guessed grenache. Took time to open & balance out showing lots of floral notes. Barely early window. Best 2026-2060. 94p

Izakaya Vin in Tokyo with Gerard and Sapphire. WOTN by a country mile, and that’s saying something considering the caliber of the champers. Ethereal perfume of violet, Sarawak pepper, blackberry and dried rose. The palate was quite sinewy at first with slightly grippy tannins, but as it mellowed with air, it unfurled and became incredibly silky, finishing with powerful black cherry and fresh leather flavors. Trademark invigorating acidity of the 2016 vintage kept things lively. Must drink more Cote Rotie!

Excellent Syrah. The jamminess is gone but it’s still way too young to drink. With Coop and Phil at FC lunch

Rhône icons dinner, wine 7/11: fascinating to drink this next to a Rostaing Blonde from the same vintage. I leant towards this wine, although the group was split. I think it was further along it’s journey and came across as wonderfully integrated. There’s probably a bit less fruit here and a bit more licorice than intensity. It’s still remarkably fresh though and I liked the slightly herbal note that pervaded. The joy of terroir. Thanks to @[1|6249174|Alastair]’s friend Johnny for providing both Rostaings.

@[1|6249174|Alastair]’s mate Jonny must’ve known my love for Rostaing with a pair of 2010s. Still on the ascendancy this wine, incredible intensity of anise (like the seed in a gobstopper), smoky meat, raspberries. 50/50 split for Landonne lovers vs gentleman preferring Blondes (@[1|1394404|Riaan] and me)

#RhoneRanger Great pairing with the Cote Blonde. Great wine in its own right. Pepper and anise, great development in the glass. More of a wild child. Very interesting. Now to see how it stands up against the Guigal Lala.
